Well we had a bit of a scare Monday night as Nykeita decided to disappear. No escape hole or route was found but she was nowhere to be seen! No trace found in 3 hours of searching that evening. The next morning nothing either. Had to take the puppies to work to hand feed them. Got home late Tuesday evening and still no signs of Nykeita. Came inside (leaving the back door open -- opens into the six foot wooden privacy fence back yard) and started changing clothes. And out of nowhere Nykeita walks into the bedroom! I cannot relay my relief over her return! It was hard to tell who was happier - me or the puppies. All are resting comfortably and doing well today.

The puppies are growing and developing very well! They have all doubled in size since birth. Eyes will be opening soon - probably the end of the week - and the real trouble starts then. The females are starting to develop enough differences to tell them apart but am keeping the rickrack on Jade a bit longer as I still sometimes confuse her with Kiara. Tara is still the "moose" but Osiris is running neck & neck with her. Bongo surprisingly is the smallest. Pictures are updated on the individual pages and Week 2 group pictures are added as well.

Weights tonight vs birth weights:

Pictures -- first is at Day 0 (9 pups), the second Day 3 for comparison (7 pups), and then today Day 8 for comparison! Notice how much space is left in the basket in the first picture with 9 pups and the growing lack of extra space with only 7 pups on Day 3! Today there is no extra room and they are having to lay on each other to fit. Time for another basket!! It is amazing how fast they grow/develop at this age!!

All hanging out together.

Nykeita safely home and the pups
