related training courses are conducted by the hospital. These
include :
School of Nursing The school of Nursing was started in 1951 and is affiliated to the CMAI Board of Nursing Education, South India Branch, Bangalore. It is r ecognised by the Indian Nursing Council.The School of Nursing aims at training young women as nurses for service in the hospital, home and community by developing a good understanding of basic scientific and communication principles so as to maintain the highest standards of nursing education and practice. They are professionally and spiritually equipped to occupy places of responsibility.
The general nursing and
midwifery is a three year course study
which includes two years of theory and
practice in general nursing and one year
of community health nursing and
midwifery. The experience in the nursing
profession extends to work in the
hospital's rural health centre or
domiciliary nursing and domiciliary
midwifery experience. There are 35
students taken each year. The school
faculty comprises prinicipal and six
tutors who endeavour to inculcate a deep
pride in the nursing profession and
impart their knowledge and skills to
achieve and maintain good academic
results.The nurses are trained in all specialities of medical surgical nursing and spend many months in a designated field to become very specialised nurses. Special training is imparted in the operating room, all ICUs and labour room. The ICU nurses have been undergoing regular speciality training given by visiting tutor and specialised ICU nurses. These teaching sessions take place regularly. All the ICU nurses are trained in basic life support ( Cardio Pulmanary Resucitation ). The ICU nurses attend emergency calls with the emergency duty doctor on the LIFE LINE ambulance calls. The hospital can pride itself of having some of the most dedicated and best trained nurses in the city. The tradition of our excellent nursing can be traced back to Sister Hilda Baker who undertook pioneering work as a nursing teacher and in extending health care to the HD Kote district. She was the recipient of the Rotary International Award for outstanding contribution to the community. Admissions take place in June/July every year and the eligibility is PUC Science pass. Contact the Principal, School of Nursing for prospectus and details. Geriatric Nursing This one year course is primarily meant to train for care of the elderly. The emphasis is on the practical details of all aspects of care and on completion of the course the candidate would be well equipped to care for the aged in an institution or at home. Laboratory Technician This course is designed to give wide knowledge and experience in medical laboratory technology. The candidate would learn biochemistry, microbiology, clinical pathology, histopathology and blood bank technology in the two year course. Computer handling is included in the syllabus. Anaesthesia Technician This 2 year course would equip the candidates to assist in all forms of anaesthesia and also be an operating room assistant. Radiology Technician This course will provide the candidate with the expertise is handling X ray machines and proficiency in specialised radiological techniques. This will include mammography and the use of image intensifyers. The above four courses are all run under the aegis of CMAI, leading to the certificate after 1 year for the Geriatric Nursing course and 2 years for the others. These are full time courses with practical and theory components. Admission during June/July each year. The post graduate Medical Training courses have started in 2000 and a comprehensive training programme is in place to impact practical and theoretical knowledge in the specialities. This is to enable the candidate to be proficient in the field and also to be prepared for the Board Examinations. There are two classrooms with audio-visual aids
such as overhead projector, slide projector,
video cassette player. A medical library with standard textbooks and journals both national and international. This includes facilities for CD roms, videos and access to internet. The centre has a dormitory to accommodate 20 students as well as teaching faculty rooms. The centre also serves as the hospital's boardroom and is used for all academic activities such as non - formal training programmes for village level workers, seminars and workshops. |
