After his father's death in 1812, Michael was apprenticed to a carpenter in Columbia, PA where he stayed until he moved to Franklin Co. in 1822. He purchased a farm in Fannett Township, Franklin Co., PA in 1824 and farmed there for 14 years. Michael then moved to a farm near Fort Loudon in Peters Township where they had 420 acres of land in 1860. In 1875 Michael and his wife moved into the village of Fort Loudon for their final years. He is buried in the Mercersburg, PA, Cemetery.
