William and his eldest son, John, crossed the mountains on foot from Huntingdon Co., PA, and bought land in Indiana Co., PA for $300 in 1819. For the next 10 years William and his sons traveled back and forth between Indiana Co. and Huntingdon Co. to clear the land and plant it until the family finally moved there in December 1829. They were one of the first five families to settle in Cookport, Indiana Co., PA. William was buried at the East Mahoning Baptist Cemetery.
