Here it is! The Oz Top 25 Countdown for the week ending March 9, 2002.
This has been a pretty active week as far as debuts are concerned, but otherwise, it's been pretty slow. But yet again, we have a new number one! This marks the 4th week in a row we have seen a song debut at the pole position. Can a song ever stay longer than a week at number one, who knows? But if there was ever anyone to do so, it would be the artist who debuts this week.
Kylie Minogue celebrates having the number three album this week in the US with Fever. This came as a little of a suprise to me just because she isn't all too well known outside the gay community and has only one single so far out from the album. I think the big test will be next week, to see how far she drops. Anyway, the albums second single, In Your Eyes, debuts at number one this week. This Is Kylie's first official number one, but during fall of 2000, her duet with Robbie Williams, Kids, would have probably been a number one hit.
At number two this week is a duet from Europe, M2M. I happened to be reading an article on Jewel's upcoming tour and saw they were the opening act. Well, I remember M2M for their wonderful song, Mirror Mirror, and wondered what they were up to. Well, that lead to me downloading their latest single from their new album, which was released this week. Everything reminds me of a Mutt Lange recording because of the heavy use of guitars and the way they are used. Just one listen to this infectious pop song and you will hopefully understand what I mean.
Christian group Jars of Clay debuts this week at number 3 with I Need You, the first single from their new album The 11th Hour. I have been big in to JOC since their last album, I Left The Zoo. That album has some GREAT tracks on it (esp. Goodbye,Goodnight, Unforgetful You, and Famous Last Words). Their latest track has some nice touches of synth in it, plus a great guitar track that makes it simply a great tune.
Alcazar makes this weeks last big debut at number 5. Last month, they manged to have a number 4 hit with Crying At The Discoteque. The song only managed to rack up two weeks before falling off though. Hopefully Sexual Gaurantee will be able to last a little longer than that. The other debuts this week come from Ian Van Dahl and Celine Dion, who debut at numbers 12 and 18 respectively.
This weeks big mover belongs to Basement Jaxx, who move up TWO spots with Where's Your Head At? In fact, it was the ONLY song to move up the charts at all. That really doesn't suprise me too much though. My charts have seemed to turn into a place where a song debuts high and then falls for the remainder of its chart life (like the UK charts). Anyway, only time will tell if this trend continues. This weeks biggest faller belongs to none other than li'l sis' Minogue. As Who Do You Love Now? drops back 11 spots to number 25.
Well that's all for this week. Check back next week to see who's number one and who falls off!
Until then ... |
