Here it is! The Oz Top 20 Countdown for the week ending February 9, 2002.
This week's chart defnitely seems bland compared to last week's chart, but there is some good action going on, so let's get started!
The battle of the Minogues continues! This time Kylie is the champion. While last week little sister was number one with Riva, she now slips back 5 spots to number 6. Big sister Kylie rockets up 7 spots to number 12 (argely due to seeing the video a few times), achieving a new peak and become one of the two songs that are this weeks biggest movers.
Speaking of big movers! Cher reclaims the throne this week as her latest hits number one from number 8 last week. I happened to be driving when I FINALLY heard this song on the radio and I was sooo excited. I really hope this becomes another huge hit for Cher. I really think it has the potential to. If it can stay at number one for two more weeks it will become Cher's biggest hit on the Oz Top 20.
Home and Happy!!! Well, while the song might not be commercially available in the UK until next month, I figured that I might as well make Home And Dry eligible to chart since there is a video available. The video prominetly features mice on the London Underground (the above ground part though). It's so weird to see the video (which is available to see at petshopboys.co.uk) because having been in London, I know EXACTLY what it's like to see mice on the underground. I even have pictures! Anyway, they recieved enough exposure with their latest mid-tempo ballad to debut at number 11 this week. The countdown highest, and only real, debut. Oh, and their new album Release is due out later this spring (isn't that SUCH a PSB title!)
Natalie Merchant makes a rebound on my countdown this week. I really need to get off my lazy butt and download (I mean buy) her latest album. Her last album, Ophellia was one of my favorite albums of 1999 and produced 2 top three hits. I'm hoping there are some more gems on her latest, Motherland. The reason this song recharted was probably due to seeing the video at of all places, Wal-Mart. I really should see if I can find it online.
Britney Mania! She now has two songs in the top 5, as both of her latest hits rebound to numbers 2 and 5 respectively. With her new movie coming out (the reviews I have heard aren't good) she should continue to have success here. Oh, and this definitely isn't the first time an artist has had two songs in the top 5. The last time this happened was back on September 8, 1997 when Real McCoy was at number one with If You're Not In It For Love (I'm Outta Here) and at number 5 with I Wanna Come With You from their wonderful second album One More Time.
Anyway, that's about all for this week. Come back next week to see if Cher can stay on top or if Britney will have her way with the charts.
Until then ... |
