Here it is! The Oz Top 20 Countdown for the week ending January 12, 2002.
This week, the action is on, as we have six debuts this week, including a new number one. Let's start from the bottom up, however. 'N Sync debuts at number 19 this week with Girlfriend, the third single from Celebrity. I have only heard the song a few times, but think it has great potential. 'N Sync are definitely not playing by anyone's rules when it comes to their music. The first three singles from their latest album have all had totally different feels.
At number 10 and 11 are two new R&B hits that make their way onto the countdown. Faith Evans first entry on my chart, You Gets No Love, opens this week at number 11. Now, while I said some time ago that I hated this song, Janet's latest opens at number 10 this week thanks to the remix featuring Missy Elliot and P. Diddy. The album version is still crap though!!
One of my favorite guilty pleasures every week is watching the WB comedy Maybe It's Me. The show, which features Julia Sweeny and Fred Willard, is instantly likable and had me hooked from the first listen. The show's theme song, Everything U R by Lindsay Pagano, makes it's debut this week at number 8. I sort of forgot about this song until I saw it on Billboard's singles sales charts and realized it was eligible.
The last two debuts take the number one and two spots this week. CHER! What else can I say! (This Is) A Song For The Lonely is finally able to make a dent on my charts after its debut on the AMA's this week. This is definitely a GREAT song and will hopefully bring some more success to her in the US. Unfortunately, of all people, Britney Spears keeps Cher from claiming the top spot this week. I'm Not A Girl, Not Yet A Woman, which Spears also performed (not lip-synced for once) at the AMA's, is the latest single from her third album, Britney, and also is featured in her new film, Crossroads, due out Feb. 15. I had totally forgotten about this song for a few weeks I guess cos when I finally heard it on the radio the day after the AMA's, I realized how much I LOVE this song.
How long will it stay at number one? Who knows? Maybe Cher will knock her off next week, or mabye Iio will return for a fifth week atop the charts. You will have to come back next week and find out. Until then ... |
