Here it is! The Oz Top 20 Countdown for the week ending January 26, 2002.
In comparison to last week, this week's countdown seems rather dull. The main reason for that was probably because I just turned 21 this week!!! So I haven't had exactly a lot of time to listen to new music. We only have one debut on this week's countdown. That debut is by Natalie Imbruglia, who enters at number 6 this week with Wrong Impression, the second single (first for the US) from her latest album, White Lillies Island (I'm a little lazy at the moment, so that not might be exactly the right title, but it's close enough!). The album's first single, That Day, made absolutely no dent on my chart and I honestly didn't like the song. Wrong Impression, however is a great track that should prove to everyone that at least in the US, Imbruglia is no one hit wonder. On my charts she is no one hit wonder. After Torn hit number one for seven (non-consecutive) weeks in early 1998, she followed it up with two other top 20 hits, the highly underrated Wishing I Was There and Smoke. Look for this song to possibly become her second number one.
I just can't get her out of my head! Kylie Minogue's Can't Get You Out of My Head is this week's biggest mover, shooting up 6 spots to number 13. I was fortunate enough to catch the video on MTV2 on the 24th when they were showing it on the hour. I unfortunately didnt catch all of it. But I am sure I will see the whole video sooner or later. This week's biggest faller is Elton John, who's I Want Love makes a sad downfall 6 notches to number 16 this week. I am a fan of this song, but with new music coming out, I doubt this will have staying power on my countdown.
Speaking of new music, we have a new top 2 this week. After last week's impressive number three debut, Murder On The Dancefloor by Sophie Ellis-Bextor rises up two spots to claim the top spot this week. The song is truly an awesome dance song and although it's stay at number one is an uncertain one, I would be likely to say that this song has a few good weeks at number one in it. We will only have to see. At number two this week is the new song by 'N Sync. After rocketing up 15 spots last week, Girlfriend moves up two more spots to number 2 this week. I am a BIG fan of this song, but I don't think it will have enough to knock Sophie off the top spot.
Well, that's about all the time I have for commentary this week. You will have to come back next week and see who is number one and, depending on how much new music I get to this week, how many debuts there are.
Until then ... |
