A boy pisses in a bottle, and another one, not knowing what liquid that is, drinks its content. This act leads to a strange metamorphosis: his body becomes the other boy's body.

The story for this Quick Movie was improvised at a night in which we were in the mood to make a film. Although we came up with this idea, we kept it for another occasion, for it was already late. It became a school composition, and then, some time later, we actually shot it.

The idea had its seed, strange as it may seem, in a bottle. Someone had an empty bottle in his hands, and I took it as a challenge: could we think of a story that somehow would have that bottle in it? We had the idea to revert its function, which means that instead of using it to drink, we would use it to piss. Apparently that was too nonsense to lead us anywhere, but we kept on this line (that's the good thing about brainstorming: no judgement during the creative process). Then the bottle would have its original function back, for someone would drink its content, not knowing what liquid that was. Not only insane, but also disgusting. Of course that should lead to something interesting, and here is the point the fantastic part of the film starts. The one who drinked from the bottle becomes the one who pissed in it. Eventually they meet each other.

The fact that we would have a "double" in this film was specially appealing to us. With our equipment we could not perform double exposure, which means that we could not put an actor playing with himself in the same frame. But that didn't matter, for the challenge to get a plausible effect just by good editing and correct positioning of camera and actor during filming, seemed much more interesting to us in terms of filmmaking. That is also true for the metamorphosis itself. Nowadays we could rely on computer effects, but back in 1988 it was much beyond our dreams. Again we had to rely on editing and correct positioning of camera and actors.

The "double" became a recursive theme in the koboldian films after "Gemini". Quick Movies like "The Reflex", "Vlad" and "Egofobia" return to it, with different approaches thou. "Gemini" has got a comic touch, and Talking Heads' Stay Up Late helps keeping it that way.
