Synopsis

An archaeologist finds a buried treasure which has been kept by a ghostly guardian.

Some words about "Der Schatz"

On an afternoon at the beginning of August, suggested by the title of an expressionist German film from the 20's, we came up with the idea of making a Quick Movie about an archaeologist who would find a buried treasure.

Through a map, he gets to the site where it is supposed to be buried. An assistant does all the digging, and he ends up by betraying his boss, and taking the treasure from him. At this point, the supernatural element of the story appears, a "ghostly guardian of the treasure" who takes it back from them both.

At the beginning, the archaeologist seems to be an adventurer, not only inteligent but also smart and strong. But this portrait changes, as his assistant, who earlier seemed to be a faithful companion, a sheep, reveals himslef as a dangerous and smart wolf.

It is not a particularly ingenious nor creative plot. The introduction is too long, in comparison to the rest of the movie, and the conflict only shows up nearly by the end of the film.

This Quick Movie was shot one day after the story was created. Not much has changed from the original idea, only a few details. Preproduction was efficient enough. It resulted in the visual aspect of the film as being one of its positive aspects, giving it an "Indiana Jones" touch.

The sound track - Peter Gunn performed by The Art of Noise - on the other hand, does not fit the context, although it properly follows the rhythm of the movie.
