Pick Modes

There are three pick modes:

Toggle

If you pick an object that was inactive, it becomes active. If you pick an object that was active, it becomes inactive.

Replace

Only the objects you select remain active. If you select no objects in this mode, the effect is that the pick list is cleared. This is similar to using Pick > Nothing.

Remove

The selected objects are removed from the pick list. If they were active, they become inactive. If they were already inactive, there is no change.

The following table lists how to use these three modes while picking using the mouse.

left button Toggle
middle button Replace
right button Remove

Tips:

  • This pick functionality is also available when using the Xform tools. If you hold the Shift key you can temporarily pick items. For example, if you are using Xform > Move, hold the Shift key and use the left mouse button to toggle the object's pick status.
  • A click-release is different than a click-drag-release. A click-drag-release pick operates on all geometry in the pick box according to the selected pick mode. A click-release only operates on a single item. You can use the click-release method for separating overlapping geometry.

Multi-pick

When trying to pick a specific item in a mass of other items, a pop-up menu will appear listing everything that can be picked. As you scroll down the list, each item will highlight. This function was created to make picking items easier and quicker.

You can disable this feature with the Use Pick Chooser option in Preferences > Interface > Interface options-.
