We just had a very successful trek of naneghat last weekend and were in no mood for another consecutive one. But some one suggested and everyone agreed at once. This time we were biggest group for any trek so far. We were eight members (Jignesh, Amol, Saket, Hagish, Ashok, sandy, Rahman, Akhilesh, pawas and me). We has decided upon prabalgad but we had been so late to reach there, the time was already around 7 pm. So we thought of some different plan and eventually came up with shivneri. We reached kalyan by 9 pm. We skipped some bus thinking that the next bus would have some seats but till last bus the bus were up to their capacity. So we decided to take private taxi. After hard bargain we hired a three wheeler for shivneri. The auto was so slow and under powered that it almost crawled the whole way. But that is the real fun part of the journey. We were`nt thought of enjoying the auto ride so much, but we did. We were like sailing in the wind in dark. When it entered the ghat, we often had to came out so that it can scale the climb. The whole auto journey was of about 5 hours. At early morning we were right at the foothill of the fort. We were very dissapointed to see that there is no trek, instead straight stairs directly takes one to the fort. Any way historically we were visiting the most valuable fort of maratha history as this was the birthplace of "Shivaji maharaj". The fort was very nicely built and well preserved. The fort is on a lone hill over a large plateau. We stay there for some 4 hours and took direct bus for dadar in the evening.
