Part1:The night safari
This was our first nite trek and for those who don`t know or never ever tried, I`m telling that this is one of the most exciting, cheap and beautiful trek one can have nearby karjat area. We are total of eight friends and all were very much excited as we`v never thought of being in woods at nite. For a trekker water is the most important necessity but for a nite trekker torches are the must thing. ALthough you can`t take view of lanscapes which seems very challenging during day. But this very anonymity at nite, a feeling of being lonely with only your guts and skills to save your bones gives us chilling excitement. We were group of seven punters (jignesh, akhilesh aka macchu, tenzin aka nepali, jagdish, ashok, rahman aka raimi and me). We set out on evening for karjat. But we were bit late as the last bus for the base village has already left. The time was 9:30 pm. We had to take auto to reach the base village. We started our trek at 10:30 type.
Part2:The night trek (moonwalker)
We entered jungle among standing ovation of barking dogs. From the very start of the trek, we were constantly loosing the path. From time to time we had to halt the whole group and send patrols to look for rigth path. At one moment we were standing against a large cave. The cave was very beautiful, but certainly not in the way to the top. When we were inside the cave, suddenly our all torches went off, only one pencil torch which was in my hand was glowing deemly. We sat there and repaired the remaining torches under the light of pencil torch. Some torches can`t br repaired and some started again after changing the cells. We again had to petrol for the path and this time nepali has done the job. At one spot we were cleary seeing the train which keeps emerging and then again loosing among dark. That moments was really very cool. We keep trekking till 4:30, when we first saw the glimpse of the fort. We sat there and did the bonefire. All of us were bit tired but certainly with a sense of great achievement. The fort was still bit far away but we were already on the plateau.
Part3:Next morning (missfired firewalls)
We again started in the early morning and after 2-3 kms straight walk we reached village facing the fort nearby. We directly headed for the forts and there a surprise was waiting for us. When we reached nearer we saw that there were actually two exactly similar small forts standing next to each other. The one in behind was of real importance. There were steps and we were on the top at 9:30 am. The view from top was the most beautiful I`v ever had from any fort, that was unbelievable. We took rest there for a while and got back to the village by 11:00. While we were having tea in the village, we saw villagers giving frantic signs. Later we noticed that one other group which was next to us on the fort had alighted the dry grass up on the fort. Almost half of the fort was burning. The group itself got stucked in the fire. The villagers were very angry. We finished our snacks and hastly returned from the village, who knows what was coming next.
Part4:Return of Dragoons
We were back to the karjat by evening. We were feeling so exhausted dead that we almost drop dead in the local train back for kanjurmarg. But for the first time I have stretched my endurence level this far. This was certainly one of the most cherished trek I`v ever had. I`v not only tested my endurence limit but also got in hand to hand with the nature`s silent charm.
