Mahuli is a small and beautiful trek in the igatpuri region. After a long
period without any trek, we were on a plan for trek. Trek should be one day
trek with good connectivity and should fall in the region which was still
untouched till then.So everyone agreed for mahuli. It was sunday and we
set out late in the morning for asangaon. We reached there by 11 a.m type.
From there we had walk along the trek towards kasara for nearly 30 mins,
till a railway crossing where we took left direction. We marched for nearly
3 hrs to reach the base village, mahuli gaon. Though one can get here by auto
also which plies regularly to and fro. When we were leaving from college,
we thought that it`ll be a raining day but to out dismay the rain was only
scanty and so we decided to take extra water from the village. We went to a
small shop and asked the girl sitting there for water. We also bought buiscuits
on purpose so that the girl won`t get annoyed by the forced social work of
giving water. When we asked the girl if she can provide us with tea also, she
told that villagers don`t drink tea. We knew that she don`t want xtra social
work of tea serving. So we left with plenty of water for the mountain base.
After crossing one bridge we got to a shiva temple, from here there was a
way leading straight to the top. So we pray to the god and took the route.
There were two first time trekker with us, so we have decided to go slow and
in safe mode.
The path was easy and easily trackable on most the way except for few
patches. At one moment I found that I have a snake serpent over my foot.
Snake is the most scary thing I want to see in the jungle. There were
beautiful waterfalls on the way and we were gaining altitude slowly.
On the way we have met two guys (kaushal and abhinav) who are also
our college. I don`t know how they plans for their trek, but at that time
they are low on both food and water. And we were still only halfway to the
top. They have made mistake of taking wrong path. Abhinav was looking
quite tired but the other guy was really like regular commuter to the
mahuli. We finally reached to the top at 4:30. We have stared from the
bottom base at 12.00 p.m. On the whole ascent, rain never showed up,despite
giving regularly its calm cool clouds. There is nothing much to see at the
top and also one of our fresher (roopam) was quite tired, I have brought
every regular things needed for trek except glucose and I have made this
mistake earlier also. We went to kalyan darwaza, there we had
our lunch and then to one big pond. Sighting of water snake gave me chill
again. After spending 1:30 hrs on the top, we have decided to climb down.
While on the way back, we sat at a point for nearly 2 hrs chatting and just
capturing the nature`s beauty at dawn. That moments was life time to be
remembered. Our two other friends have already left since long. We had
torches with us and so we had purposely decieded to make way back at dark.
On the way back, we had lost our way and roamed around in complete dark for
nealry 2.5 hrs. Suddenly we saw a hut, an old women told us the way to the
railway station. At asangaon we still had enough time for dinner as the last
local was at 11:30 and the time was around 10:30 p.m. We went to a chinese
corner at nearby and have the luxary of hot soupe and cheap food. Finally we
got on the last train and wrapped up this momentful journey.
