It was a long break of 2 months since we have`nt been to any trek and then came
17th april 2004. The days were really hot and so this trek had to be a night trek. We choose Kothligad as its an easy trek being suitable for a night
trek. We were four trekkers (ravi, ruhela, raimi and me) for this trek. I had
rejected kothligad many times earlier because some people described it as too
easy one, but noneotherless this trek is very standard one and almost all of
those who have trekked the sahyadri had this trek sometimes or other. To karjat-ambivalli We set off to karjat in the evening 6:30 pm. We reached karjat at 9:15 pm and the last bus to ambivalli had left at 8:45. Cruel situation and a repeatation of another attempt 3 years back when we had to trek Rajamachi instead of kothligad. We had to settle with expensive autorickshaw for ambivalli. Night-out in peth We started to peth from ambivalli in the dark night. We had torches per person plus a stereo with us. All the FM stations were at their best on saturday night. We almost walked to the peth as there is a well descent cart way leading to peth. We decided to stay at peth till dawn. This time we managed to have a patila to make maggy. We had bonefire and maggy with songs and gupshups to make time memorable for last. We had the whole mumbai littered with dwindling lights in front of us, twinkling stars above and the kohtligad besides us.Perfect propositions. :D On the top We started with very first light to the fort. This was infact an easy trek and we reached the entrance door in 40 mins type. But this fort has indeed a very surprising entrance. The entrance is a carved staircase inside the rock cliff itself and I think that this is the best part of the fort. From the top, we can see many ranges around us including Bhimashankar (which was inviting us for a mansoon trek). The view from the top was too much in the early morning. The sun just stayed behind clouds till 9 am to let us enjoy the time. Back to hostels The return journey was bit tiresome as ambivalli does`nt have very frequent bus service. But we were back at the campus at 4 pm happliy with very sweet and special memories with a sudden fear that Oh! god please this is not the last trek, give us one more. |
