Part1:Journey to Khandas (sawaan ka mahina) I have just finished my third year and longing for a cool outing. Mansoon has already set in and the time was riped for a trek. I did`nt have to look for companions as there were plenty of enthu punters. This time the team was composed of Jignesh (aka jiggu bhai, my gujju connnection, our teams logichead), jeph (my rajasthani connection, fuzzy boy but high in spirit) and sandy (enthu trekker). Sandy was having his first trek from the list of many treks later on. We as usual reached karjat by train and from there got to "khandas". There a larger group was already getting ready to start the trek. They advised us to share a guide for the starting part of the trek. We also agreed on as I knew how bizzare a earlier attempt from a trek group of our college went in bhimashanker. They started on wrong direction and ended up being screwed by heat and scarcity of water. So, we decided better to start with a guide. Part2:The trek (walking under rain) The trek consists of three layers of plateau. At the middle layer, guide left us, as the rest of the path was well marked. By that time, the rain was also set in making the forward journey more pleasent. There was a little tea- stall where we were resting with the other group. We had already trekked for about 2 hours in the woods. From thereon we moved on our on and let the other group passed ahead. The trek was long but not very demanding except on one or two places. At one place we saw the other group got in on a narrow pass with a great fall on one side and also was bit sloppy. One of their member having phobia got stuck at the middle. He was too nervous so he just sat at the middle refusing to stand on and move any step further. On the either side of this narrow gauge lies the other and ours group. We somehow managed to get the guy out and moved ahead. We had started the trek on 11 am and the sun was setting dwon when we reached the top plateau. We just sat there and took long breath. Part3:Enter the punters (an evening in bhimashankar) We entered the town at around 5:30 pm. First of all we looked for a room. We were offered rooms in several "dharamshalas" but they were too scanty and marshy ones. We somehow managed to get a private room and after taking freshment set out in the town. The rain had started heavily when we visited the main temple. We then spent rest of the evening having tea and usal pavs and at the end after taking dinner we choose a lone spot and chatted there till midnight. The time was going so smooth and beautiful. Next morning we visited the Nagfani Point, that was so cool. After some time spenting there, we were deciding on for the return journey. We then got to the town and the rain was puring so heavily that everywhere there were clouds. Part4:Return(bidding bye bye) Initially, jignesg and sandy were to go with bus as they were very exhausted and we were to follow the same route. But later on we decided to return in bus as a whole. The return journey also turns out to be so cool. In the raindy day, the sights were so exotic. The bus took us almost to pune and then take a about turn right towards mumbai. The whole journey was very very great. At the end the trek turns out to be one of the most successful one. Back on college we were setting ourself ready for our fourth year with such soothing memories. |
