Part1: Journey to naneghat(night flight to venus)
Naneghat is simple trek not far away from kalyan and is a perfect night trek. At the top there is a B.C era fort called jeevdhan challenging you to take another dare. This time, we were a picket of eight people (Gaurav, giriraj, jignesh, amol, ashok, sandeep, rahman, sanjay and me). We have decided to take naneghat at night and then scale jeevdhan at the morning. We got at kalyan at 7 pm. The buses are regular for tokavade and varshakhare (the nearby stops). We had told the driver to drop us at the point where the trek starts. Amol at this time proved his knowledge of marathi as third language. You simply can`t explain them what you want. The two marathi manas (conductor and amol) chatted little and the thing was assured. At dead dark, conductor told us to jump out. The starting point is marked by a cemented stone but surely will be missed by anyone at night if he does`nt know this place beforehand. We got at that point at 10 pm as it was 2 hour journey from kalyan.
Part2:The night trek(monkey trouble)
Taking our torches out and also taking one stick in other hand we sat off for the trek. The path was easy till 4 k.m after then ascent starts. The whole climb was quite peaceful and we got at the top after 4 hour of ascent. At one point there was very narrow passage and the whole group was moving in single file. Suddenly there happened to be great activities above at the trees. They were the monkeys. But initially not realizing what was at the top, the whole group panicked. Some asked to leap ahead and got out and some cried to pull back. Remember there were complete darknedss. Somehow we managed to keep the whole group intact. We then move ahead slowly often taking small breaks. Walking into woods at night was very exciting experience. Finally we reached the naneghat plateau. The time was around 4:30. There was very cold at the top. There are caves also, where one group is already having a warm stay. We took rest in the open. Though we made bone-fire, but that night was the coldest I`v ever seen. We were taking brandy sips alongside to keep us warm. We had eggs and bread butter for breakfast. After then we start walking for jeevdhan. There is a small village 3 km on the way where we had tea. There our one of the partner (gaurav) had gave up the idea of jeevdhan and so we got him stay there.
Part3:Trek to jeevdhan(we missed)
Jeevdhan was clearly visible from the village, jeevdhan is roughly 3 kms from the village. The path is very treacherous and one should therefore look around for arrows carefully. When we reached at the base of the pinnacle, we`d lost the arrows. As pinnacle was very flat from most of the side, we thought that the way up must be from side ways. So we took a narrow pagdhandi which lead us to the adjoining peak. From there we realized that we had made mistake and the way was from somewhere else. Suddenly we saw some locals and when we asked the way, they told us that there are carved steps which is not visible untill one goes very near to it. But the time was running out as it was already 3 pm and we had to get down to the place from where we had started before dark.
Part4:Return
I was very heavy hearted as I`d nearly reached the steps but missed it. We got back to the village by 4 pm. There we had lunch. There we were also told that some time ago, four trekkers lost their way to jeevdhan and stranded in the jungle till 8 pm, when the villager took notice and rescued them. We started our decent at 4:30 pm and caught the road by 7:30 pm. From there we took a truck ride to murbad and from there a taxi ride back to kalyan. Though we just missed the final peak but thats the part of trek and one should not take much notice of it. Naneghat was absolutely beautiful and jeevdhan was very adventerous and thats what a trekker can ask.
