Part1:Onstart
There was already one month gap since I had my last trek. Me and rahaman were very anxious to have another one. Finally we managed to get maithil and bangdu for the trek. We originally decided to have "Kothligad" as trek since this one is considered to be an easy one and also there was some air os extra thrill since we`v heard that this fort is haunted. We decided to leave on saturday (28-2-04) for peth. By the time we were at kanjurmarg, it was already too late to catch the last bus (9.00pm) for ambivalli so we decided to switch our plan for some other trek. Finally we agreed on siddhgad, the very fort where our trek 3 years back went horrendously wrong( in the night we choose the wrong path and ended up at the base of Damdamia and got struck at the midway).
Part2:To siddhgad
We reached kalyan at 8:30 pm. From kalyan we took an ST bus to Murbad (buses are at regular interval to murbad till midnight). From murbad we took another ST bus to narivalli (there are regular bus service to Narivalli). We reached narivalli at 10:30pm. We were the last passenger on the bus and there was quite darkness out there. We asked the bus conducter and driver about the route in case they know, they were very friendly as they asked (in ghati) some villagers passing by to help us through the route. All of them refused to tell te route as they did not want us to enter jungle at night. So we budged and agreed to stay in the village only and start the trek in the early morning. There were two schoolboys who were very friendly to us, took us to a temple where they also used to sleep.
Part3: Nightstay at narivalli
When we were done with our bedding, the boys asked us if we like to come to jungle with them to have some fruit (I can`t recall the name). They took us to some place in dark where there was some plantation. The went inside and got "chanaboots". We then went to another place in the jungle where the buys have already made arrangments for roasting the beans. We made bonefire and had roasted beans. The time was around 1.00 am. We came back to temple and slept there till 7 am in the morning.
Part4:Day trek to siddhgad
We started at 7 am to siddhgad. From narivalli siddhgad looks very impressive conical shaped huge mountain. The trek from there is a three stage climb with siddhgad at the final stage. There were lots of tracks big and small, criss- crossing each other. And soon we got off the right track and predicted by the villager. We entered the jungle where the path ended up in a died up waterfall. We climbed the waterfall to reach the first stage. From there we were totally taken by the sight of three huge mountains standing against us. Siddhgad lies at the very left. But the other two mountains at the right are also very impressive. The mountain standing next to siddhgad is even higher than it and we later came to know that this one is called "Damdamia" and people have trekked this one also in the past. At the first stage it seemed to us that we can climb up from right side. As we were heading towards that direction, one villager met us and told us that we have to climb up from the left. Thank God! our trek may failed otherwise. We took left and after several some more glitches got the correct path. This one is very wide and it seems that it was coming right from the village , so we could have night trek if we would get this at night. we riched the second stage at 1 pm afternoon. Though we have walked for over five hours we were not very tired. We asked one woman in the village to cook us lunch. She promptly agreed as we offered Rs 50. There we met wiht another group from our college. We took rest at the womans`s village for about 1:30 hours, had lunch and again set for the final stage.
The final stage was a huga rock standing right straight. There are occasionally carved steps but are very steep. This part was bit tricky and one has to be extra carefull at the upper part. When we were at the very top, bangdu gave the frantic call that he could not cover the sandy patch lies ahead, so does ramhaman and maithil. I went ahead and finally reached the top with a tremendous relief undoing the long wait of three years the get here.
The view from top was too much to express in words. At the top there was ruins of a small palace and the surrounding views was ........... (fill in the blank as suits you). We finally got down to siddhgadwadi at 5:30 pm. In the was down we came across a Sadhu baba.
Part5:Back to narivalli and return
We rushed back to village narivalli to catch the 8:30 bus. We reahed there in record 2 hours. We reached murbad at 9:15 and had dinner there. From there we took a bus to Kalyan at 10 pm and finally were at the campus by 12 midnight. (29-2-2004)
