Part1: Planning
The god of all trek, very truly. A trekker`s diary is definitely incomplete
without this chapter. An essentially two day trek, this encompasses a whole
variety of adventure, nature`s splendure, holy place and last but not the least the peace of mind. Malshay ghat has kept this jewel well away from the urban
life and one don`t have much to bother about rush hush and commerialization like
that in lonavala and khandala.
The plan for this trek came abrupt. I`v just cleared my B.tech degree and all
my batchmates has passed out. In other words my whole trek group got vanished
except for two friends. Then came "Dhilly babu", ye don`t go for name he is one
cool dude with attitude. He is also a trek punter and suggested me the name of
two friends, both of which I least expected to be a trekker or interested in
similar things as they are the real studs in our batch. They are "Ravi jain and
Anurag Ruhela", holding frist and second rank repectively in our batch. But all
silly preassumptions, they turned out to be a cool trekker. The fourth one was
a regular trekker, "Sandeep", and is a member of our old trek group. Talk about
general knowledge, current affairs and things like that, he always has something
relevent to discuss about.
Together we were five. The plan was finalized at 12.00 at night. We would be
leaving next morning. I was little skeptical about the success of the trek, as
we had two fresher and the place was typed to be one the most adventerous one.
I have read about guys having several attempts before becoming successful and
have even met with one (he had three unsuccessful ones till then).
Part2:Journey to Malshejghat(chal chaiyya chaiyya) We
set out early in the morning for kalyan, from kalyan we took bus for dehri (the
palce where bus drops those who came for this place). The journey was of 2.5 hrs
long, took one brief halt at varshakhare. From that place that malshay ghat
started. The momemt we entered that ghats, clouds came closer to us. The bus ride was really very exxciting as there were very beautiful landscapes outside.
When we reached dehri, we saw a long stop dam (about 4 km long). We have to
walk atop the dam to the base village. But luckily on the way we picked a jeep
heading for the village. From the base village, we started the trek.
Part3:The trek (day 1)
The ascent
was not much challenging except for two rock patches which certainly poses
great risks during mansoon. The mansoon has already started but that day was
bit dry. The total time we took for ascent was about 4 hrs. At the top, there
is a large plateaue and one has to take a long round way to reach the place
where there are ruins of old time, probably thousands year old. Ok now you have
just made to the top. This is harishchandragad, surprised? Ye, I was surprised
that this is the place, as we still have`nt saw any fort like structure except
mearge remains of the wall. Actually this place was more like a place for
worship then to be a strategic fort. Anyway, the surrondings was like heaven.
This place is among highest in the ghats and during mansoon the surrounding
cliffs and clouds added to the beauty.
There is a lone hut, which is like a service center. There we had tea, poha and
placed order for the dinner as we had decided have night stay. The man took us
to nearby cave and show us the room. To our surprise we found out later that
there were two more groups residing besides us in the caves. By that time, it
was already very hazy climate. And then one very funny thing happened. I had
nature`s call and no one was having emergency that time. So I had to go alone,
I did`nt dared to go far away beacuse visibility was very poor. So I just choose
a place some distance away behind one small rock. The visibility was almost none
and then suddenly the clouds dissapeared for a while. God!!!!!!!!!! I was sitting right at the middle of a ground. oooffffffffffffffff. Luckily no one was
around. Forget about this.
We then have our bags left in the cave and went to the konkan kada. But we
did`nt see anything because of the fog. We came back. We sat there for while
and came back. The time was around 6:30 p.m. We then roamed around, had tea
several times. It was like walking in the clouds with a cup of tea in one hand.
That was really cooooooool.........
The dinner was very nice and after dinner we just roamed around. We had noticed
that the one large group had their cooking arrangements well done and they kept
washing plates every now and then. When the time came for sleep, we thought of
giving room some heat. We had woods provided to us by the man.But sandeep has one idea struck and he used "Gobar kanda" to produce fire. What happened then?
We had to fought hard to clear out smoke from room for nearly an hour or two.
So please don`t go for that and instead have some brandy along with.
Part3:Day 2(just another day in paradise)
Next day, we covered the whole plateau and them decided to get dwon by
evening. We were at the road side by 6 p.m. But we had to wait before we got
onto a bus as the buses was not halting at that point and we had to walk
some distance to the nearby town. The return jouney was as same as the arrival
one. But the return bus ride to kalyan was scary as the bus don`t horns and at
one moment we found another bus right against us. That moment was really scary.
But rest of the journey was peaceful. We returned powai by 9pm.
