There wis a lass frae a Campsie toon
Born lang ago her name wis Jane Broon,
Jimmy Dickson wis her sweetheart true
She merit him though he wis fu',
A Farmer wis his stock an' trade
A family came as they hid made,
First a lad an' then an' ither
The last yin cau'd efter his brother,
Pair Jimmy deed aged twenty three
Nay mare life wis he tae see,
Whit wis pair wee Jane tae dae
Twa boys tae rear; Nay faithers pay,
She thoucht an' thoucht; Whit wid be best
As her wee man took o' his rest,
A ken a know whit road tae take
I'll merry his brither fir ma boy's sake,
The lads grew up wi' nae name tae change
They dinna' think that it wis strange,
Uncle Davie wis their faither tae
Wi' faither Jimmy lyin' doon the brae.
