| Tzimisce luminary of the Sabbat. Sir Daniel began life as a 17th century German nobleman, whose attitude and treatment of those beneath him attracted the attention of a Tzimisce elder, Stefan von Bardburren. Bardburren took Sir Daniel as his protege, and, as a ghoul, he learned the secrets of Cainite existence. Once he had proved himself, Sir Daniel was granted the Embrace by his sire. However, while Bardburren - who had renamed himself Steve Bradbury to reflect current cultural trends - was a believer in innovation, technology, and the New World, Fortesque preferred the feudal lord unlifestyle that the Sabbat could offer, and as such was more taken by the teachings of his grandsire, who embodied these traits, than by those of Bradbury. Still, Bradbury was proud of his childe nonetheless, and doted on him as though Fortesque was a beloved pet. This was not particularly to Fortesque's liking, but Bradbury was becoming a powerful Cainite in Sabbat circles, and it would not have been a good idea to make an enemy of him - yet. So instead, Fortesque set about trying to make a name for himself, often leading himself into trouble. One such occasion came when he heard of a powerful warlock, Cornelius, who was apparently experimenting with Sabbat Cainites. Fortesque decided to take Cornelius on, but caught his lover Sietarra instead. The resulting confusion culminated with Fortesque killing Sietarra accidentally. Corenlius returned, and was devestated. He vanished into the shadows of the world, silently plotting his revenge. Fortesque, meanwhile, was commended for ridding the Sabbat of their enemy. But still, he paled in the shadow of his sire. When Bradbury was given the task of conquering the city of Maiden Newton for the Sabbat, and then rewarded with the Archbishopric, Fortesque was made Bishop. This caused much controversy, as many believed that he had only got the position because Bradbury was his sire. This was not really so, and Fortesque at any rate believed this, and knew he was in for an especially tough struggle to prove himself now, while still serving under his sire. This proved to be both a blessing and a curse when Steve Bradbury was murdered during the Palla Grande festival, for while it gave Fortesque a chance to shine through as an individual, he was also the prime suspect for the crime - a notion that was manipulated and embellished much by Fortesque's scheming rival, Bishop Shane Orton. It soon became clear that the two Bishops - who had, for the sake of temporary stability, agreed to rule the city jointly for a trial period - despised each other, and so, against the backdrop of numerous other threats, they plotted against each other, bringing the Temple to the brink of civil war. Fortesque's opinion on dealing with enemies - show no mercy and defeat them in full and bloody combat - was in direct opposition to that of Orton, whose tactics were more Machiavellian - secrecy, plotting and subtle manipulation - and this caused much dispute within the Temple. Tensions soon grew, and it was not long before the Temple was divided, one Pack supporting Bishop Orton and the other in favour of Fortesque. Then, just as Fortesque looked about to lose this debate - for good - Paladin Louisa Finn, a treacherous Camarilla agent within the Temple, made her move, and had Orton captured, tortured, and returned to the city in a mindless state. Orton was put on trial for treason, and was executed under Finn's judgement. Thus Fortesque became Archbishop, by default if nothing else, and led the Temple as its highest power, with his two Bishops, Fi and Solo. A matter of months passed, during which Fortesque led his Temple against a series of attacks by strange, demonic entities, which culminated in them going head-to-head with the entities' master and creator, the Tzimisce Elder, Ronald le Couronne. This resulted in eventual victory, but a price - Fortesque and the others were sucked into the Hell of Lord Arrakon. Their escape |

Hearing of this blunder, Cardinal Luis arrived at the Temple, seemingly to destroy Fortesque for his poor leadership. But indeed, quite the opposite occurred; Fortesque was ordained Priscus of the South-West, which is the role he now serves the Sabbat in. Despite his newfound wider concerns for the sect, Fortesque still keeps an eye on his former city - grimly aware that his powerful enemy from the past, Cornelius, has now come to Maiden Newton, seeking revenge for the death of his lover. However, it is from the inside that Fortesque has now found himself vulnerable. A plot to frame him as the leader of a Camarilla spy network failed only by the intervention of Grand Inquisitor Anthony Livingstone. This plot was led by the traitor Sanguinus Vitae, but also implicated a number of the other Temple members, including Zy and the treacherous Mr Pin. Sir Daniel Fortesque has now, thanks to Livingstone, completely fallen from grace; after all his blunders and breaches of the Code of Milan, the Grand Inquisitor has stripped him of all Status, and demoted him from Priscus to Packmate. Following this, Fortesque has stayed mostly out of the way of the Sabbat, only emerging from time to time. One such time was when he was betrayed by the traitor, Toby of Clan Tremere, and delivered to Cornelius. He was subsequently rescued by the Sabbat, and granted permission by Livingstone to destroy Cornelius himself, but this and other recent events have caused him to resolve to leave the country and return to his native Germany. However, the recent discoveries made about the prophecy concerning the Cardinals of Humanity - four individuals who may be able to halt the Armageddon Prophecy at the last moment - may prompt him to stay after all, for he is reportedly the identity of The Angry Dragon - a rather fitting sobriquet, after all that has happened to him. In a sudden and inexplicable turn, Fortesque has betrayed his Sabbat brethren, leaving Bishops Zy and Tomsk, along with Bungo and Rakh, stranded in the nightmare realm known as the Deep Umbra, to the mercy (or lack thereof) of its dark inhabitants. The four were released by their new ally Sahjhan, but the traitor Fortesque has not been seen since. Fortesque became a part of the final stand against Lord Arrakon by leading a small group of Alliance members into the Quicksilver building, which was now being inhabited by The Shadows. The Tzimisce elder fell at the hands of The Shadows, and his loss was felt throughout all those still loyal to the Sabbat. Inside Information: Sir Daniel Fortesque was the longest-running NPC of the Society, until his Final Death at the end of Dies Irae. He. was named after the character of the same name from the Medievil games on Playstation. No challenge to copyright intended! |
