"Liar!" Jacinta roared even louder, "how can you go trying to live an honest life, and then start cheating on me?"

Alex became extremely frustrated, and pushed Jacinta back. "What is wrong with making an honest living?"

"That's how they control you, Alex! Your name and everything about you is kept on record so that anyone can find it. The more successful you are, the more they watch you. Everyone gets to know about everything you've ever done. Is that what you want?"

Alex understood the point Jacinta was making. Somehow, it did not make sense anymore. Sure, people knew more about him now, but it had never hurt him from what he could remember. He could never believe that what Jacinta was telling him was true, but worrying more about freeing himself, he decided not to argue.

"Let me go."

"Answer me!"

"It's none of your business, hypocrite! You seem to want to know about as much about what I've been doing as you don't want anyone else to know. You're the one who has been controlling me!"

Jacinta loosened her grip around Alex's gut. Alex looked down and realized that it was not rope that had been holding him, but Jacinta's extremely long tail. It was very quiet for a long time, but she still did not leave.

"So what happens tomorrow?" Jacinta finally asked, "I overheard that you're leaving."

"I'm going on a very important mission. It involves the very powers that make our world."

"You don't really plan on doing this alone, do you?"

Alex nodded. "I must. I can't afford to be noticed."

Jacinta gave Alex a wishful glance and started rubbing his leg with her tail. "Please take me with you. You really shouldn't be alone."

Alex kicked Jacinta's tail away. "I don't think you should. I'm supposed to be stealthy. Bringing you would make that much more difficult."

"Well, excuse me," Jacinta said haughtily, "but I do believe I taught you everything you know about going anywhere undetected."

"Still, you know that no matter who it is, more bodies means more risk."

"I really hope you decide to take me. Even if you don't, you know I'll be following you. Wouldn't it be better to keep me in your sight?"

Alex was beat. "Fine. Just remember: be stealthy."

Alex returned to his bedroom to prepare for the coming morning. Although he would not admit it, Jacinta's assistance would likely become useful. Ruby's gift was comforting, also, which reminded Alex that he should retrieve the gift from Jacinta. Alex turned around and saw Jacinta, who had been directly behind him. "You are not sleeping here!" he shouted.

"Come on, Alex, you know you would like it," Jacinta begged.

"I'm not that sort of boy! Now give me back my armor shirt!"

"Fine!" Jacinta shouted, throwing the shirt hard against Alex's chest. He caught it and held it firmly. "I sure don't want to use that thing anyway. It looks disgusting!" she shouted as she stormed out the house.

Alex blinked twice. "Dj vu"
