APRIL 2007
MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

April showers bringPine Oaks!

But not just that, Aprils also bringing big news to our little community!  First, as you may or may not have noticed, the Pine Oaks billboard has gone up on the side of the route 14R bus that travels from Parkston all the way over to West Parkston.  The reason I say may or may not is because if youve ridden the bus or have it travel past you, then youve seen it, but if you havent done any of those things, then the may not section of that phrase applies most directly to you.

In other how-great-Pine Oaks-is news, Id like to take this opportunity to announce that I have received an exciting piece of mail.  It seems that someone or someones has nominated Pine Oaks for the book Wheres There: American Burgs and Municipalities.  How exciting!  Of course I didnt hesitate to check the box marked Yes!  I Would Like To Meet With A Wheres There Representative, sent the requisite $400 check, and mailed the whole package off.  According to the Wheres There mailing, a representative will be here in two to seven weeks to walk about Pine Oaks and meet with the Neighborhood Board.  So not were just waiting for that.  Rest assured, that soon, thanks to the good people at Wheres There, that Pine Oaks will be known across the country to people who buy a copy of the book.

Community Voices

Hello Pine Oaks residents

You know theres a famous saying, April Showers brings May Flowers, which I believe is in reference to the order of performance at a Pittsburgh-area gentlemens club.  Im not sure how it really applies here.

But what I think Rutherford B. Hayes meant when he said those words still holds true to this day.  And that is this: Im glad to be in your neighborhood.  I considered quoting another great patriot, Rogers Fredericks, who once said, wont you be our neighbor, until I realized that applied even less because you all already lived here and my family and I are the ones who recently joined you.

If I havent had a chance to meet you by now, my name is Tim Jeffs.  Your board president Barbara Del Roca invited me to pen a little column introducing myself to you, the community in which Ive moved.  I was elected to the House of Representatives, where I represent the good people of Jackson, Adrian and Battle Creek, which you may know as where breakfast cereal is born.  You know, my district and Pine Oaks are a lot alike, and I look forward to sharing a living experience with everyone here.  I must ask, though, that you not consider my your congressman, as you already have a congressman. Im Michigan 7s congressman.  Anyway, I look forward to hearing about all of you, but not your local problems.

Yours truly, but not yours,

Hon. Timothy Alan Jeffs., U.S. Congress
WELCOME WAGON

April showers may bring flowers, but unfortunately they havent brought any new residents to our little community.  Thats okay, though, since they wouldnt have anywhere to live anyway!  Theyd just be homeless.  And if theres one thing we dont want here in Pine Oaks, its to end up like North Gardenton.

Until next month,

Andrea Stillman
