| MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT Salutations, my fellow Pine Oaks-ites! October is upon us, or as I like to call it, Shock-tob-horror! As always, we have an exciting issue of the Community Newsletter for you! We have some Halloween safety tips from Tony Daniels, an update on the high school goings-on from Marcus Eddy, and a special extended edition of the Young Persons Perspective. We also hear from resident Ben Kingsley (not that Ben Kingsley), who feels Ive been receiving unfair treatment in these pages. While Mr. Kingsley is entitled to his opinion, thats certainly not true. Any instance where Ive highlighted Stillmans Hardwares low, low prices have been in response to unprovoked attacks on my business, which I will not cotton to, as the young people say. We at Stillmans Hardware have proudly served the community for over twenty years, and we take that seriously. At Stillmans, youre always guaranteed friendlier service than those oversized package retailers, and I cant help it if some of that customer can-do attitude carries over into the newsletter. Fine. Are you happy Ben? You got your way. I have some sad news to report, friends. As many of you may know, on Sept. 12 the Shop-tastic Supermarket closed its doors after eight wonderful years. It appears that business has dropped off as of late, and staying open was no longer financially viable. It may not always have had the widest selection, the freshest produce, or soup of any kind, but it was ours. And in the end, isnt that what matters? However, every cloud has a silver-plated lining, and so Im happy to welcome the Just Shoe Me shoestore in its place (and just in time for Sock-toberfest!). Im sure theyll make those of us in the Pine Oaks business community proud. Finally, to end on a happier note, please notice that community movie night has been moved from its normal place on the second Friday of the month to accommodate Rt. 237 High Schools homecoming game! Im sure the Fighting Van Burens will have better luck this year as they take on the winless Jeanne Kirkpatrick Ambassadors! So come on out, cheer on the team, and help end Rt. 237s 23-year homecoming losing streak! Go Fighting Van Burens! Jim Stillman |

| WELCOME WAGON Neighbors, It is my sad duty to inform you that we have no new neighbors this month. Unfortunately, I took the liberty of ordering twenty Welcome, Friends! gift baskets to give out as part of the Welcome Wagon Welcoming package. Since there is no one to welcome, I will leave the baskets out on our porch (3127 Gradshaw St.), and anyone who wishes is welcome to take them! The baskets feature four kinds of muffins, gift certificates to local businesses, blackberries from the Stillman garden and a t-shirt that reads, Im welcome! Yours in welcoming, Andrea Stillman |
