AUGUST 2006
MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT
Hello again, Pine Oaks residents!  Jim Stillman here, owner of Stillmans Hardware and Pine Oaks Neighborhood Board President.  I hope you enjoyed the first issue of the Community Newsletter as much as I did.  There is, however, one note of concern I must address regarding last months content.  Tony Daniels, the head of the local Neighborhood Watch, advised residents to purchase the Lite-Lot 30x brand flashlight, which he said may be purchased from the nearest Home Depot for a reasonable $8.49.  While Mr. Daniels is entitled to his opinions, we here at Stillmans Hardware believe that $8.49 hardly constitutes reasonable.  Thats why, all this week, Stillmans has placed on the Lite-Lot 30x on sale for a scandalous $7.99.  Some may wonder how we can turn a profit at such low, low prices.  We at Stillmans believe theres more to life than just profits.  Theres also your safety.  Just look for the display featuring Janet Fielding, Miss Northern Virginia 1987 and still a beaut!

I also want to mention a little mishap that occurred in regards to Pine Oaks July 4 celebration.  The newsletter last month asked those of you with last names beginning with I through P to bring main dishes such as hamburgers, hot dogs, and the like.  The listing should have clarified that these foods were to have been cooked first.  Many of you, thinking that this event was a cookout, brought raw hamburger meat and cold, inedible franks.  I want to thank those residents who brought buns and side dishes, except for Glen Corey, who brought carrot-raisin salad.  I mean honestly Glen, carrot-raisin salad?  No one eats that crap.

On a more upbeat note, please notice that on August 19th, Pine Oaks will celebrate the pools reopening with a Neighborhood Pool Day.  The idea was suggested to me by my lovely wife Andrea, and I called a special session of the Neighborhood Board to put it into action.  And dont forget our Founders Day events August 4-6.  Its sure to be an exciting time.  I know youll find me digging the hip sounds of Grooveasaurus Tex on Sunday.

Ill see you around the neighborhood!
Jim Stillman
WELCOME WAGON

Hello again!  Its time for another edition of the Pine Oaks Welcome Wagon.  Please say hello to the following new residents!  Im sure they wont mind a friendly knock on the door.

Andrea Stillman
Welcome Wagon President

- Greg and Simone Watkins; 1884 Parkston St.
Greg, Simone, and their two lovely children Anika and Greg III (who likes to be called Trey) have moved into the late Mrs. Goodefarrows old house.  Hopefully theyll have better luck with the garden than Mrs. Goodefarrow did!  Greg has taken a position as the Washington correspondent for the Dallas Courier in Texas, and Simone is a lawyer currently working on her D.C. bar certification.  I had an uncle who was bar certified, but I dont think its quite the same thing!  Unless Simone really likes gin.  In the fall, Anika will be a junior at Rt. 237 High School and Trey will attend Jefferson David Middle School.

Edward and Alyssa Thorell; 909 Gradshaw Blvd.
The Thorells come to us from Sacramento, California, where they both taught at the local college.  Alyssa has been nominated for a position in the Department of Homeland Security, and her confirmation hearing is scheduled for early September.  Maybe we can organize a group of Pine Oaks residents to go and cheer her on!
