| Book Club Report Julia Schaun, Pine Oaks Book Club Co-Chair Hello friends - I want to thank all the new Book Club members who attended last months meeting for the first time. It was so much fun meeting everyone and finding out about their reading interests! In fact, it was so much fun we barely had time to discuss our Sandra Day OConnor biography, and we've pushed back our August book in favor of Sandra Day OConnor, part 2! Ill continue leading the discussion as we delve into Joan Biskupics insightful biography of the first female Supreme Court justice. Im sure it will be interesting and fun, just like Justice OConnor! As youll notice, this months meeting will be held on the fourth Wednesday of the month, rather than the traditional first Wednesday. This is for a variety of reasons, not the least of which is that my co-chair, Barbara Del Roca, has been "busy as a bee" preparing for the Founders Day celebration. That only leaves two weeks to read Septembers selection, James Joyces Ulysses, but I know we can do it! Finally, I want to remind everyone that its time again to sign up for hosting and discussion duties. As I mentioned in last months newsletter, all Book Club members must either host a meeting or lead a discussion, or both. Ill have a sign-up sheet on the 23rd for everyone to write down what theyd like to do. While our sign-up meeting is traditionally one of the weakest-attended (other than our November Thanksgiving-stravaganza), with all of these new members we should have more than enough volunteers for the next six months! |
