| Neighborhood Watch Safety Tip By Tony Daniels April showers bring maize flour, and this month Tony Daniels is bringing you some fresh safety tips. And starting next Thursday, you can catch me delivering my safety tips in a whole new medium. After having some frank and honest discussions with station manager Fiona Sellers, Im proud to announce the creation of Safety Watch with Tony Daniels on the local cable access station, WARL channel 74, the Warl. Ill be using my new show to help spread the safety word to Pine Oaks and throughout the northern Virginia area. Safety Watch will have guests, a call-in segment, roundtable discussions with local safety celebrities, and some act-em-outs, various scenarios and safety walkthroughs care of local improve group (or is it troupe?) The Gutbusters, who you can also catch occasionally on WARLs 9 p.m. Tuesday Local Comedy Laffcase. So remember to tune in to Safety Watch with Tony Daniels, Thursdays at 3:45 p.m., in between Harris P. Mackenthorpes Fiscal News and Discussion Program and Tuesdays with Laurie, now at a new day and time. Now that thats out of the way, Id like to thank those of you who came by and took a pamphlet last month. Your enthusiasm is much appreciated, and I have a feeling that Ill need to step up production of next months pamphlet. Speaking of which, next months pamphlet is titled Household Items That Can Be Used As Safety Flares In Case Of Emergency, Even If Its Not Really, Really An Emergency. Its an exciting look at how you can stay safe the moderately thrifty way. For instance, you can take an ordinary roll of paper towels, set it on fire using the stove, or barring that, a really hot light bulb, and waving it about menacingly. Spoiler alert! Youll have to read the pamphlet to find out the rest. Well, that does it for me for this month. I have to go figure out how to fill 13 minutes of safety-related programming that doesnt involve mace every week. |

| Rt. 237 Fighting Spirit By Marcus Eddy, Senior Class President Hello, denizens of Pine Oaks! April showers bring some flowers, as they say, and at Rt. 237 High School, everythings coming up daffy-dils! If you remember from last month (and unless youve been in a horrible car wreck, you should), its been Science Fair time here at Rt. 237. Unfortunately, yours truly was not successful in his bid to win the proverbial (and actual!) blue ribbon this year, and I ended up in 7th. Happily, though, Andy Nakamuras project, Our Friend Tungsten didnt fare any better, placing 11th. If you ask me, Andy may not have been at his best this year, and the rumors about his alleged drug use continue unabated. Get better Andy! But not enough that you get into an Ivy League school. On a happier note, the end of the science fair means its the start of Prom Time! The Rt. 237 juniors have been working hard this year, and though they havent raised as much money as we did last year, they should still receive our thanks for their efforts. The only item of prom-related business left is the selection of a prom theme, which is voted on every year by the entire senior class. Various themes are nominated by individual students, and we have a varied selection to choose from this year. The nominees are: Say No to Date Rape; Balllllin!; Monster Mash 2007; and my personal nominee, Wouldnt It Be Nice?. I envision a sort of Beach Boys-meets-Lawrence Welk-meets-retro 1950s sort of thing. The voting takes place in a few weeks so that the juniors have enough time to prepare. I cant wait to see what my fellow classmates decide on!! Marcus Eddy, Rt. 237 Senior Class President |
