Book Club Report
Julia Schaun, Pine Oaks Book Club Co-Chair
Greetings, Pine Oaks readers!  Or perhaps I should say, G-read-ings Pine Oaks reeters.

April showers bring more reading!  Thats what were saying here at the Pine Oaks Book Club.  Last month saw a stimulating discussion of the book Profiles in Daring, led by the books author James Watters!  Mr. Watters dropped such pearls of wisdom as, Its up to you (me/us) to be daring.  If youre (Im/were) not, who will?  Some other jerk, thats who.

And you know, its so true.  It is up to you or me or us to be daring, otherwise someone else will be, at least I assume so.  Of course, if Im not daring then you might be, which means Ive failed to dare, but youve succeeded.  That never really came up in Mr. Watters talk, so Im not sure what he has to say about that.  Maybe Ill e-mail him.  He did mention, however, that hes working on a follow up to Profiles in Daring, called Profiles in Daring 2: Dare to be Daring.  It sounds like another winner, and perhaps well have him back when that one comes out.

Mr. Watters last suggestion was a good one, though, which was to be more daring in your life, and to tell other people about experiences youve had being more daring.  So in that spirit, heres one of my examples:

The other day I was in line for the buffet at H.G. OGradys, and I noticed that the line to my left was moving more quickly than the one I was in I was in the one closest to the wall with the desserts if youre facing the entrance, and the line Im talking about is on the other side of the buffetcounter?  table?  Whatever you call it, its where they put the turkey and macaroni and cheese and vegetarian chili.  So anyway, Im trying to decide whether to get into the quicker line, or wait patiently and get my greens first as I always do.  Well, out of the corner of my eye I saw someone coming up who was headed for the quicker line, so I just jumped! into it, and got my food and was back at my table before my husband was.  So it really is true what James Watters says: you have to be daring, or else someone else will.
