DECEMBER 2006
MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

Greetings!

It is with great pleasure that I address you today as the new Pine Oaks Community Board President.  It was a fierce and close election, and I thank my good friend Jim Stillman for running a good race.  I say it was a close race because apparently a few of you out there voted for Terry Otter as well, diverting votes away from me.  And while I question the soundness of whoever-you-ares decision, I cant argue with the results!

So, youre saying to yourself (I know I am), what can I expect from the Del Roca administration?  As I mentioned during the campaign, a vote for Barbara Del Roca was a vote for change.  And we start that process with a new round of Community Board elections.  All Pine Oaks residents are eligible, but to vote you must attend Januarys board meeting.

I also have some big plans for our little community.  I want to make it so that everyone around knows what a great place Pine Oaks is to live and work.  I want to attract more residents and more businesses to our area, so that we can all enjoy a greater quality of life.  After all, isnt that the American middle-middle to upper-middle class dream?

On that note, some sad news to report.  Just a short time after joining us, Just Shoe Me will close its doors next week.  While we are sad to see it go, every closed door opens another door that sells different things, as I always say.  And so we are poised to welcome Lowells Wicker in its place.  Between Lowells, Gum Village and Duffel Town, I know where Im doing my Christmas shopping this year!  And hey shoppers, if youre stumped for a gift for that special someone, relative, or neighbor (hint, hint), theres never been a better time to make a contribution to the Caring Wishes Foundation in someone elses name.  Nothing says the spirit of the season like, I helped out a child who is neither you nor your child.

Which also reminds me to remind you (to remind your friends!) to come out and carol with us on the 22nd.  It will be a fun and community-building way to forge neighborhood togetherness and seasonal well-wishing.

See you there!

WELCOME WAGON

Hello residents.  I see you have decided that my Jimmy isnt good enough.  Thats fine, I suppose.  Barbara does have her ways of persuading people.  But its also my pleasure to announce we have some very special residents moving into Pine Oaks!  Please give your heartiest welcome to Congressman Tim Jeffs and his family.  Congressman Jeffs was elected to the House of Representatives from the 7th District of Michigan, replacing someone who retired.  After searching the Northern Virginia area for a home, Congressman Jeffs, his wife Liz and their children Vanessa and Tim Jr. decided to join our community!  How exciting!  Theyve taken that large three-story over on Parkston, and the children will start school here in January.

So join me in welcoming them!

Andrea Stillman
