| MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT Salutations, Pine Oaks residents! This is an important month for our little community. Its election time. My two-year term as Community Board president has come to a close, and I have decided to humbly seek re-election so that I may continue to serve you, the good people of the Pine Oaks neighborhood of Falls Church, Virginia. I will save the listing of my many accomplishments for the profile in our special election section of this months newsletter. Suffice to say that the special election section, and indeed the entire newsletter, without my leadership and decision-making not four months ago. But, as I said, I will save my accomplishments and vision for the future for the election section (hey! that rhymes!), which also features profiles on the other two people running for Board president and the text of the referendum on the installation of colonial-style streetlamps, for your consideration. Personally Im very excited about our plan to install these streetlamps, and as a citizen concerned for the future of our community I urge adoption of the refendum. But wait, theres more! (as the ad execs say) Also in this issue we have the latest reports from the Pine Oaks Book Club, Rt. 237 High School and the Pine Oaks Welcome Wagon, as well as a new safety report from Tony Daniels. Its the mixture of information and entertainment that youve come to expect from the Pine Oaks Community Newsletter, which has always strived (strove? striven? streve?) to keep residents apprised of all the neighborhood goings-on, and which again was founded four months ago under my leadership as Community Board president. Should you, the good people of Pine Oaks, decide that I am unfit to serve a second term, then let me say that it has been a privilege, an honor and a pleasure to be your president. Well, except for the bike rack incident. But as a more-famous-than-I man once said, the less said about that, the better. Before I take my leave from this message, here is the pertinent election info: Date: November 7. Polling Place: Rt. 237 High School Hours: 7 a.m. 8 p.m. Whos Eligible: Any resident who has lived in Pine Oaks for at least three months. Jim Stillman, Community Board President |

| WELCOME WAGON Hello! Im very pleased to announce that we have some new members of the Pine Oaks family. Id also like to thank the three of you who came by and took a spare Welcoming package. Unfortunately, that left seventeen baskets of muffins and blackberries that are now green and white with fungus. This caused Jims mold allergies to get the better of him, and he had to close the store for three days to recover. So congratulations. By not taking our free muffins, you had a deleterious effect on our local economy, and we all know what that means. Andrea Stillman Welcome Wagon President - Ed and Ramona Wheatly; 3074 Briarlake Rd. The Wheatlys join us from the District, having recently tied the knot. Ed works as the legislative director for Oregon Rep. Mike Sandberg, and Ramona teaches geometry downtown. Congratulations to both of them, both on their recent nuptials and on their decision to move to Pine Oaks. - Tyler Morley; 812 Gradshaw Blvd, Apt. 4D. Tyler is a recent graduate of the University of Pittsburgh, and has moved to the area to work for the technology firm Innovation Solutions. |
