| Community Voices - Special Election Section Candidates for Pine Oaks Community Board President Jim Stillman Major accomplishments: Pine Oaks Commons Faade moderization Burnham St. sidewalk repair Community Newsletter Streetlamp referendum I sent a letter to the Metro authority requesting a bus stop for Pine Oaks. It was rejected, but you cant blame a guy for trying. Plans for the future: Adopt a no eyesore policy for all neighborhood porches and stoops. Resubmit the letter requesting a bus stop. Barbara Del Roca Hello neighbors! Many of you know me, but for those of you who dont, my name is Barbara Del Roca, and I am a candidate for President of the Pine Oaks Community Board. Im running because we need a change in leadership, and I feel that I am the best person to provide that change. This summer I planned and supervised the Pine Oaks Founders Day events, and had one of our most successful ever, with only a few handfuls of hospitalizations. Tara Solomon cant say that. For the past eight years I have also provided leadership to the Caring Wishes Foundation, which helps fulfill the dreams of local children who otherwise would not have that opportunity. Its this sense of caring and leadership that makes me best qualified to serve as your President. While Jim Stillman is a good man and a friend, quite frankly it is time for a change. He talks incessantly about clearing our porches of eyesores, which quite frankly reminds me too much of the time he wanted to remove all the bike racks from the neighborhood, and hired Tony Daniels to surreptitiously remove all of the bikes and bike racks in the middle of the night. I know that I certainly dont want to wake up on November 8 to find that my porch has been stripped bare of my plants and porch swing just because Jim thinks theyre eyesores. The choice is clear. Vote Barbara Del Roca on November 7, for a new Pine Oaks. Terry Otter My name is Terry Otter and I am running for Pine Oaks president because I think the neighborhood leash laws are not strict enough and I would like to change that. I am not against dogs in fact I like dogs very much my cousin has a dog and he is real nice. I think his name is Jeremy. Too often I am taking my evening walk around the neighborhood and I see dogs without leashes or dogs who are allowed to use the bathroom without it being cleaned. I am running for Pine Oaks president because if I am elected we will have stricter leash and pet cleanup laws which I think is important. Jim and Barbara are nice people but please vote for me. Thank you. Ballot Referendum CREATION OF COLONIAL-STYLE STREETLAMPS In favor of authorizing the Pine Oaks Community Board to establish a contract, with the lowest bidder, for the purpose of installing and maintaining streetlamps in the colonial Virginia style, to enhance the link between the neighborhood and its history, to attract revenue for Pine Oaks businesses, and to bring Pine Oaks in line with surrounding neighborhoods and communities? ___ Yes ___ No |
