![]() The first Harry Potter movie, 'Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone' was a hit success. It set a record for most opening day sales, which wasn't beat for seven months! (Spider-Man beat it, then Star Wars Episode 2: Attack of Clones) To find a list of the movie cast, click here. To see the movie crew, click here. Movie Review When we learned about critiquing movies in school, my English teacher said that we can't be "wishy-washy", or fickle. Well, in the case of 'Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone' I must say that being fickle is the only to review the movie. The movie was good, I thoroughly enjoyed it. It does stay true to the books, but only to an extent. Chris Columbus made a lot of unnecessary changes. He made some major mistakes. However, it had the same basic plot. No major characters, except for Peeves the Poltergeist, were cut from the movie. The acting in the movie was excellent-by child's standards. I wouldn't say Daniel Radcliffe did anything worth of an academy award, but he did a great job, and I'm sure we can expect even greater work from him in the future! Emma Watson was excellent as Hermione. She nailed every line perfectly, giving off the exact vibe you're getting from Hermione when you read the books. Rupert Grint did a good job-he was sort of a comic relief throughout the film. 'Sorcerer's Stone' is based on the best selling books by J.K. Rowling. The film is about a young boy who lives with his horrible aunt and uncle. One day the boy [Harry] finds out that he is a wizard and he sent to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. There he learns that a powerful Dark Lord [Voldemort] murdered his parents and gave Harry a scar. Harry and new friends learn that something is hidden in Hogwarts, something they think Professor Snape is trying to steal. This is an excellent movie. It has wonderful scenery and costumes and the special effects are breath-taking. I recommend this movie HIGHLY to all ages. It's understandably rated PG for very mild usage of adult language and some scary, intense, and/or dangerous scenes. I give the movie an A-! 3½*'s! |
