![]() Here is my review of the 'Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone' DVD Although it got terrible reviews from the critics(the DVD, not the movie in general!), the Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone DVD is sure to delight fans of all ages. It should especially appeal to die-hard fans (such as myself). It is rather disapointing in the matters of the absence of a trailer for the second movie. Also, it's going to take you about 5+ minutes to get to the deleted scenes, no matter how many times you've found them in the past. The deleted scenes (this review will be positive!) are rather stupid; they don't show any pivotol information and they hardly add up to the director's cut. I did, however, enjoy the classrooms. They were often commented on as being "more concerned with graphics than with content", but I rather liked the way you could see clips of the teacher's best moments, etc. The only feature that seriously seemed to be more-so focused on graphics than content was the self-guided (although someone guided it for you, go figure) tour of Hogwarts. The tour sseemed to be just a re-telling of some of the more memorable scenes in the movie (i.e. "Who could forget that time in the Great Hall when..."). The tour was also a bit short, as you only get the see the Gryffindor common room, the Gryffindor dormitories, and the Great Hall. I was looking forward to finding hidden areas, Dumbledore's office, the actual virtual classrooms, etc. Diagon Alley wasn't terrible like I've heard. The only real problem I've had was navigating about the flags. The key to Gringotts, by the way, is a little too obviously hidden on the flag hagging outside the building. The only really disapointing part of Diagon Alley was that you can't tour the alley, you just get to look at three flags that are apparently hanging above stores. The Ollivander's Wand Shop in Diagon Alley is a bit time-consuming, but I highly suggest it as you'll need a wand to get into classes. Eyelop's Owl Emporium (another of the stores) is basically an information center for various breeds of owls. I was going to take this space to describe the Extra Credit section of the DVD, but unfortunately do not have a DVD-Rom in my computer. This DVD-Rom is essential in viewing the extra credit. The interviews are one of the better special features on the DVD, although they only show clips of conversations with the production crew, and the whole thing is incredibly short. I wasn't that disapointed though- you can learn a lot from the interviews! The Library was, surprisingly, one of my favorite features. Unless you're really a hard-core HP fan it probably wouldn't be of interest to you though. You get to see pictures of the plans and drafts for creating costumes, scenery, props, etc. You also see and old man's head and then a statue that goes along with it. It's a draft of a statue that can be seen in the third floor corridor. ![]() |
