![]() The first book in the Harry Potter series is called Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. The original name was Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, but it was changed in the American editions. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone is about a boy named Harry who's parents were killed when he was only a year old. Harry was sent to live with his aunt and uncle, who told him that his parents were killed in a car crash. Harry always seemed to have special powers. He could make things happen when he mad, sad, or scared. Around the age of 11, Harry started to recieve mysterious letters. Uncle Vernon acted rather funny when Harry got the letters. He boarded up the mail slot and burned all of the letters. Eventually Uncle Vernon was sick of the mysterious letters, so he took Harry and his family away. They ended up staying in a run down shack on a rock in the middle of a body of water. While they were in this shack, a giant named Hagrid came to visit Harry. Hagrid revealed to Harry that he was a wizard and that his parents were killed by a powerful dark lord named Voldemort. Hagrid also explains that the letters were exceptance letters to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Harry is sent off to Hogwarts where he begins to learn the basics of magic. He makes a very good friend named Ron Weasley, but he becomes irritated by the ever-so-clever Hermione Granger. On Halloween, when Hermione was in the bathroom crying, Harry makes friends with Hermione after saving her from a troll. While at Hogwarts, Harry also does something extraordinary. He becomes a seeker for the Gryffindor Quidditch team- the youngest in a century! He is named seeker after catching a remembrall from high in the air. In the middle of the school year, Harry and his friends discover Fluffy. Fluffy is a dog guarding something under a trap door on the third floor corridor. They eventually discover that Fluffy (a three headed dog) is guarding the Sorcerer's Stone (Philosopher's Stone). When Harry sees Snape has a cut on his leg, he suspects that Snape is after the Stone- and after Harry! Hermione and Ron agree. They saw what appeared to be Snape cursing Harry's broom during a Quidditch game! When Harry, Ron, and Hermione find out from Hagrid (rather accidentally) how to get past Fluffy, they go in after Snape. Harry is the only one that makes it all the way through the trap door and past obsticles to a small room with the Mirror of Erised in it. The Mirror of Erised shows one's heart's desires. Instead of Snape, Harry sees ****. ...And if you don't know what happens next, I'm not going to tell you! |
