Cross visits to Bohol and Cebu

In the last days of March, selected residents of Lake Danao were treated to a cross visit to Bohol to study free-range chicken raising in the Purple Farms of NGO leader Ruben Balistoy. The visitors were treated to a an hour-long lecture and tour around the Saso farm of Balistoy who gave everybody a sample of the Saso's delicious eggs.

The second site visited was a project of Soil and Water Conservation in Brgy. Nan-od, Sierra Bullones. The guys from SWC and members of the people's organization in Nan-od gave us an hour-long tour of their karst forest (or what is left of it anyway), which did not quite satisfy their visitors from Lake Danao who felt the site was "too tame" for a forest. "They should visit our forest," the Lake Danao visitors said.

The Bohol cross visit was followed in the first week of June with a visit to Cebu's CLEAR project, which was all about waste recycling and zero waste management. The project was located in Brgy. Casili in Mandaue City. It is implemented by CLEAR, a Cebu-based NGO that works on environmental issues. The cross visits were part of the PFI project in Lake Danao supported by the UNDP - Global Environment Facility - Royal Netherlands Embassy - Small Grants Program which ended last September 2005.
