PeteDotCom -> Networking -> Windows -> Setup Windows 2000 ->

 

Start your machine
Go into the CMOS, make sure you machine will boot from CD-ROM
Re-start your machine, boot from the CD
It starts loading files
After it finish loading files, there will be a screen of options 
Press enter for the first one "to setup windows 2000 now"
Press F8 to agree to the terms 
Now choose where you want to install it
Now choose format using NTFS (you can choose FAT if you wish)
Now press "c" to confirm
Setup will now start to copy files
It will now reboot, remove any floppy in drive
It will now start Windows 2000 in GUI
It begins to detect your devices on your machine
Next will be the regional settings
Choose the appropriate ones, then click next
Enter name & orginisation
Enter computer and administrator password
Enter date and time
Now choose typical or customer network
I chose typical
Then I chose the second one "yes, make this computer a member of the following domain"
Enter the name of the domain to which your computer belongs to.
It will now start to install the components
This will take a while
Once finish remove CD
Reboot
It should now start windows 2000 and the network identification wizard will come up.
I chose the first one (part of network)
I chose the first one (works with domain)
Enter user name, password, domain.
If the IP address of your computer is configured correctly it should work.
In my case the IP address was configured wrong, as well as the subnet mask, thus I had to cancel it, and re-configure it once windows 2000 was installed.

To connect to the network do the following once windows 2000 has started:
(The following assumes you already have a server configured correctly)
control panel -> network and dial up connections
Local area connection
Click on properties box
Press install -> select protocol -> install netbeui
Now highlight internet protocol, click properties
Enter IP address and subnet mask
Click close
Close all folders
Right click my computer
Select properties
Select network identification tab
Click on network id
Click next on the wizard
Select the first one (connect to the computer)
Select the first one ( uses a network with a domain)
Enter your user name, password, domain
If it says it can not find an account for your computer on the domain then enter your computer name in the box, and the domain, click next
Now a domain user name & password box pops up
Enter administrator details
Click next
Now the wizard is prepare to add your user to the network, click next
Select type of user, click next
Finish
Reboot
