Two common types of backup are the
1 day per week backup, usually the Friday.
5 day per week backup, Mon - Fri

Where to keep backup tapes:
Good places to them are either in a fire proof safe or in an offsite location.
Bad Places are anywhere near magnets or in direct sunlight.

2 types of off site storage:
It goes and comes back at a later date to be re-used again.
It goes and never comes back
(The latter is the more expensive option)

2 popular backup software are:
Arc Serve
Seagate

Backup technology:
Taven    (3.2GB) AU$150
DAT DDS#   (25GB)  AU$2400
QIC            (15GB)  AU$1000

Tip:
Check backup log daily, print out a hard copy for future reference in case something goes wrong. Then you can use the log to protect your self.

Span tapes:
Ideally do not span tapes.

How long to use a daily tape:
Recommended time is 3 months or less.
Be sure to label the tapes, so you will know when the 3 months is up.

Tape compression:
Using compression will save you space but the process of backing up and restoring will take longer.
