Other Names: Litha, Summer Solstice Information: Midsummer is the longest day of the year. The sun is as powerful as it can get so this Sabbat is about fire and transformation. A good idea is to hold a candlelit procession to your ritual circle to celebrate the sunlight. Most Midsummer rituals are held in daylight to take advantage of the long day, and many people like to get up early and greet the sun. The God is also seen as the Greenman, the spirit of the forest. The Goddess is pregnant with the crops which will be harvested at Lammas, Mabon and Samhain. The nurturing of the baby harvest, God, animals and creativity is often included in Midsummer rituals. There are lots of superstitions about helping women to conceive on this night, and it is a good time to try out s/he loves me, s/he loves me not. As most of the plants have grown by now its a good time to gather up those magical plants from your herb garden. You can press flowers (not wild ones!) and gather up sticks to make wands and staffs with. There are loads of faeries around, and it is said their power increases and dies away with the sun. Many people leave food out for the faeries again on this night. From this night on the sun will wane again, so you can do the Spiral Dance to show the cycle of going into the darkness and out into the light. The Oak King and the Holly King fight again, but this time the Holly wins, and he rules over the dark half of the year.
