Pagan Teenagers

Teenagers all over the world are becoming interested in Paganism and the neo-pagan faiths. There are many people who are disrespectful towards adult Pagans, but it is twice as hard for any teenagers going down the pagan path. Older pagans sometimes dont take teenagers in the religion seriously. I must say at this point that Im talking about only a fraction of the wiccan community here. But these people do exist. They think that just because theyre teenagers that they arent seriously and genuinely interested and devoted in the religion.

Also, people outside paganism are even more sceptical of it because there are young people interested. I think this is incredibly hypocritical. Lots of young people are involved in other religions like Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, Sikhism etc.

All this said, then main troubles a teenage pagan has are friends and parents or guardians. Lots of people in the human race are extremely narrow-minded, and refuse to accept new things and things that are not wide-spread. Parents are worried because their child is involved in witch craft. This isnt a bad thing at all, but there are a lot of misconceptions about the craft. When I came out of the broom-closet my Mum was the most supportive and she listened to me when I tried to explain that I should be able to choose my own faith, and when I told her the TRUE facts about Wicca. My Dad, on the other hand, was VERY sceptical, because he wanted his son to be normal , but when I tried to explain to him about Wicca he would not listen for a long time! Parents are very protective at times and its sometimes the case that your own parents can be very narrow-minded.

Friends. Now, I am lucky to have friends that are respectful about what I believe in. Some of them think Paganism is a load of doggy doo-doo, but they dont openly say this too me and dont care what religion I follow. Others, however, arent so lucky, and they are confined to secrecy among their friends, and only tell a select few who they think they can trust!

The big thing is money! The lack of it to be precise! This means teenagers cant afford things and have to make things and save up for long times to buy any tools. As they say, good things come out of all bad things. In this sense, making your own tools may take time and effort, but it usually means the tools are more personal to the individual, and they are more effective in ritual and Magick.
