Mabon September 22nd

Other Names:
Autumn Equinox, Harvest Home

Information:
Mabon is the second harvest, and most of the crops are gathered at this time. The Goddess is becoming the Crone and gathering up wisdom that goes with her knowledge that she will soon lose the God, who is preparing for his death at Samhain. It is a night of balance, where it is thought that good and evil are equally strong, and you had to be careful as this is the night your fate is sealed for the rest of the year. The Goddess and God are also of equal power and a Harvest King and Queen are crowned to reflect this. The harvests are times of thanksgiving. Its traditional to spill red wine or fruit juice on the ground as a blood sacrifice to keep the God alive till Samhain.

As this is the beginning of the death of the Earth, many people like to visit graves at Mabon. It is said this tradition began to try to make the spirits of your ancestors like you before they visited at Samhain.

You can try making a quilt or blanket at Mabon to keep you warm through winter, or you could try to make a pillow. Mabon is a happy time because the Earth gives us so much, so music is really popular.

Rattle
Get a jam jar or a little box, two yoghurt ports, anything like that. Put some beads, bits of wax, bells or conkers inside and put the lid of the jar or box back, or stick the yoghurt pots together with sticky tape. Cover it with paper, pictures, colours, ribbons, anything at all, and there you have a rattle. If you want to you could try and make special rattles like a protection one with lots of purple on it or a health one with loads of green etc.
