Imbolc - February 2nd

Other Names:
Imbolg, Oimelc, Candlemas

Information:
Imbolc is the day associated with Brighid, a Celtic triple goddess. She is the young goddess waiting for the young god, her lover, to find her, the mother who grows the seeds in the ground and the wise old crone who retreats ready for the warm months. Imbolc is associated with fire, and loads and loads of candles, and also milk and young plants (Oimelc means ewes milk). Bride dolls, or corn dollies, are made to bring fertility to the Earth. The corn dolly is left in a cradle where she waits for the God.

You can make candle wreaths to wear on your head by making a band out of plant or paper and putting either real candles or paper ones in it (as long as you dont set your head on fire) This is a traditional time for visiting wishing wells and leaving gold coins to make your wishes come true. In Ireland there are many wells of St Brigit, but if you cant get to Ireland you could make a wishing well out of a bowl of water and some chocolate coins =) St Valentines Day has evolved out of the God and Goddess love story so you can make little presents for loved ones. Its a good time to try and see auras, and also to be childish and play lots of games.

Special Imbolc Game
The men stand in a little circle and the women stand in a circle around the outside. The men have to pass a candle between them, and the women have to try to blow it out. Whoever blows the candle out wins a kiss from whoever is holding it.
