aga khan urges correct use of koran teachings

london , tuesday

the aga khan at the weekend spoke about freedom of interpretation as a "generosity which the holy koran confers upon all believers".

he also spoke of what was needed to assure "the growth of future generations of our intelligentsia, so that we strengthen our own capacity to determine our destiny".

in a keynote address at an international meeting entitled "word of god, art of man: the koran and its creative expressions," the aga khan, spiritual leader of the the shia ismaili muslims, said: "the revelation granted to the holy prophet muhammad opened new horizons and released new energies of mind and spirit."

it was, he said, a message "still potent in the muslim world today, although it is sometimes clouded over, distorted and deformed by political interests and by struggles for power over the minds and hearts of people."

there are attempts, he warned, "at transforming what are meant to be fluid, progressive, open-ended, intellectually informed and spiritually inspired traditions of thought, into hardened, monolithic, absolutist and obscurantist positions."

later , speaking to postgraduate students in islamic studies and humanities, the aga khan described the intellectual development of the ummah as an urgent challenge.

"in what voice or voices," he asked, "can the islamic heritage speak to us afresh – a voice true to the historical experience of the muslim world yet, at the same time, relevant to the technically advanced, but morally turbulent and uncertain world of today?"

The Aga Khan: "I am amazed by the ignorance of Islam"

PARIS - He is one of the spiritual leaders of Islam who best knows the land and the people of Central Asia, the area which holds the world in suspense. He is the Imam, the religious leader and guide of the Ishamilite, whose communities are spread in various countries of Asia and Africa, but also in Europe and in North America. Throughout Iran, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Afghanistan and West China, there are more than five million Ishmaelite. ......

"I think that monotheistic religions, having an analogous belief in an only God, should and must dialogue. The three religions which Abraham inspired have many more common facets than those which divide them.

Religion must be a means by which to affirm the ethical significance of existence, irrelevant of one's faith. If we want social development, to meet halfway, to dialogue, peace, we cannot neglect ethics and the impact which education and culture have on social growth."

[emphasis added, navali]

the concept of the 'kalki avatar' - 'pure & purifier' is conveyed in the following verses of the holy qur'an.

62) Sūrat Al-Jum`ah

'Al-Maliki Al-Quddūsi -- the Sovereign Lord, the Holy One' 'Al-`Azīzi Al-Ĥakīmi -- the Mighty, the Wise' -- 'His revelations and to purify them'

did moses succeed in his mission? well, see what the torah says in this regard.

Exodus 7:1 (KJV) And the LORD said unto Moses, See, I have made thee a god to Pharaoh: and Aaron thy brother shall be thy prophet.

Deuteronomy 32:48 (KJVSL) And the LORD <Y@hovah> spake unto Moses  that selfsame day saying Deuteronomy 32:50 And die <muwth> in the mount  whither thou goest up , and be gathered unto thy people as Aaron <'Aharown> thy brother died <muwth> in mount  Hor  and was gathered unto his people :

the torah speaks for itself.

Those who avoid enormities of sin and abominations, save the unwilled offences - (for them) lo! thy Lord is of vast mercy. He is Best Aware of you (from the time) when He created you from the earth, and when ye were hidden in the bellies of your mothers. Therefor ascribe not purity unto yourselves. He is Best Aware of him who wardeth off (evil).

the holy prophet's [sas] mission was primarily concerned with the exposition of 'allah's revelations' and 'purification and salvation of the soul.' see 2:129,130,151; 3:164 and 62:1-5 - quoted above.

compare

2:231. He who doeth that hath wronged his soul. Make not the revelations of Allah a laughing-stock but remember Allah's grace upon you and that which He hath revealed unto you of the Scripture and of wisdom, whereby He doth exhort you. Observe your duty to Allah and know that Allah is Aware of all things.

4:113. But for the grace of Allah upon thee (Muhammad), and His mercy, a party of them had resolved to mislead thee, but they will mislead only themselves and they will hurt thee not at all. Allah revealeth unto thee the
Scripture and wisdom
and teacheth thee that which thou knewest not.
The grace of Allah toward thee hath been infinite.

'thou mayst purify them and sanctify them'

9:103. Take alms of their wealth, wherewith thou mayst purify them and sanctify them, and pray for them. Lo! thy prayer is an assuagement for them. Allah is Hearer, Knower. 9:104. Know they not that Allah is He Who accepteth repentance from His bondmen and taketh the alms, and that Allah is He Who is the Relenting, the Merciful. 9:105. And say Act! Allah will behold your actions, and His messenger and the believers, and ye will be brought back to the Knower of the Invisible and the Visible, and He will tell you what ye used to do.

besides him there were those who were 'purified' and were also the 'purifiers' themselves -- Yataţahharū -- Al-Muţţahhirīn - they are the RIGHTFUL holy imams [pbuth].

9:108. Never stand (to pray) there. A place of worship which was found upon duty from the first day is more worthy that thou shouldst stand (to pray) therein, wherein are men who love to purify themselves. Allah loveth the purifiers- Fīhi Rijālun Yuĥibbūna 'An Yataţahharū Wa Allāhu Yuĥibbu Al-Muţţahhirīna (9:108).

salvation of the soul

49:13. O mankind! Lo! We have created you male and female, and have made you nations and tribes that ye may know one another. Lo! the noblest of you, in the sight of Allah, is the best in conduct. Lo! Allah is Knower, Aware.
Pickthal's Quran Translation

'It is my sincere hope that this colloquium will bring additional insights to an understanding of the Holy Qur’an as a message that encompasses the entirety of human existence and effort. It is concerned with the salvation of the soul, but commensurately also with the ethical imperatives which sustain an equitable social order. The Qur’an’s is an inclusive vision of society that gives primacy to nobility of conduct. It speaks of differences of language and colour as a divine sign of mercy and a portent for people of knowledge to reflect upon.'

Malachi 3:3 (KJV) And he shall sit [as] a refiner and purifier of silver: and he shall purify the sons of Levi, and purge them as gold and silver, that they may offer unto the LORD an offering in righteousness.

3:55. (And remember) when Allah said: O Jesus! Lo! I am gathering thee and causing thee to ascend unto Me, and am cleansing thee of those who disbelieve and am setting those who follow thee above those who disbelieve until the Day of Resurrection. Then unto Me ye will (all) return, and I shall judge between you as to that wherein ye used to differ.

apparently, the absolute need and necessity for the holy imam [sa] in islam and allah's worship may be discerned from the following verses of the holy qur'an ONLY. therefore, no muslim 'prayer' or a visit to the 'holy house' is complete without HIS MENTION or PRESENCE.

this divine revelation and prophecy was fulfilled during the holy prophet's [sas] lifetime and mission. hzt. ali was his first cousin and son in law [sa]. it's divine  fulfillment continues to this very day in the holy family of my beloved holy imam - priest-kohen namely -- his highness prince aga khan iv [sa].

avatars of Lord Vishnu    Lord Vishnu in a fish form

Matsya; the Fish, is the first manifestation of Vishnu in the course of the Deluge: He saved humanity's forebears from the flood.  While Brahma was falling asleep, at the end of the Kalpa, the asura Hayagriva wanted to take advantage of the circumstances to steal from him the Vedas. But Vishnu caught the asura in the act, and to retreive the Vedas, took the form of a fish. Then Vishnu-Matsya taught the rishi (sage) Satyavrata to collect herbs, seeds and animals, to ghather toghether the seven rishis, and to wait. At the Pralaya's beginning the gigantic fish defeated the asura, restored the Vedas to Brahma;  . Matsya; RamaKrishna ; Kalaki

question

what do these 3 unrelated revelations have in common?

for some inexplicable reason -- [that He might try you] -- or the other, the lord god himself had descended on earth after the creation of heavens and earth. and more importantly, for a period of time his dwelling was associated with the mass of water.

so, please go beyond the words of these scriptures and look for the deeper meaning embedded therein. every aspect of islam resonates and revolves on these important aayaats. this has nothing to do with either hinduism, reincarnation or whatever.

We have given thee seven of the oft-repeated (verses) and the great Qur'an.

isaiah 42:11 let the _d_e_s_e_r_t_ and its cities lift up their voices, the villages that _K_E_D_A_R_ [DESCENDANTS OF ISHMAEL], inhabits; let the inhabitants of sela sing for joy, let them shout from the top of the mountains. isaiah 42:12 let them give glory to the lord, and declare his praise in the coastlands. isaiah 42:13 THE LORD SHALL GO FORTH AS A MIGHTY MAN, he shall stir up jealousy LIKE A MAN OF WAR: he shall cry, yea, _R_O_A_R;_ he shall prevail against his enemies.

Revelation 10:1 (KJV) And I saw another mighty angel come down from heaven,  Revelation 10:2 (KJV) And he had in his hand a little book open: Revelation 10:3 (KJV) And cried with a loud voice, as a lion roareth: and when he had cried, seven thunders uttered their voices. Revelation 10:4 (KJV) And when the seven thunders had uttered their voices, I was about to write: and I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Seal up those things which the seven thunders uttered, and write them not. Revelation 5:5 (KJV) behold, the Lion of the tribe of Juda [praise--ahmad-- muhammad], the Root of David, hath prevailed to open the book [surah al-fatiha & seven verses], and to loose the seven seals thereof.

revelation 19:11 and i saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called faithful and true, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war. revelation 19:13 and his name is called the word of god. revelation 19:15 and out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of almighty god. revelation 19:16 and he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, king of kings, and lord of lords. revelation 19:17 and i saw an angel standing in the sun; and he cried with aloud voice, ... come and gather yourselves together unto the supper of the great god;

revelation, part i, pp. 360-70: there is no peace for us on these four planets: to attain it, we must acquire the wisdom of the white horse of the kalki avatar... the white horse is the white horse of the avatar whose wisdom will bring peace to both man and savage nature - [deceptions and myths of the bible, 1979 edition, lloyd m. graham] >>

Deuteronomy 1:30 (KJV) The LORD your God which goeth before you, he shall fight for you, according to all that he did for you in Egypt before your eyes; Deuteronomy 3:22 (KJV) Ye shall not fear them: for the LORD your God he shall fight for you. Deuteronomy 20:4 (KJV) For the LORD your God [is] he that goeth with you, to fight for you against your enemies, to save you.

8:17. Ye (Muslims) slew them not, but Allah slew them. And thou (Muhammad) threwest not when thou didst throw, but Allah threw, that He might test the believers by a fair test from Him. Lo! Allah is Hearer, Knower.  58:21. Allah hath decreed: Lo! I verily shall conquer, I and My messengers. Lo! Allah is Strong, Almighty.

Book 020, Number 4610:

It has been narrated on the authority of Ibn 'Umar that the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) had a race of the horses which had been especially prepared for the purpose from Hafya' to Thaniyyat al-Wada' (the latter being the winning post), and of those which had not been trained from Thaniyya to the mosque of Banu Zuraiq, and Ibn Umar was among those who took part in this race.

Book 020, Number 4611:

This tradition has been handed down through another chain of transmitters with the addition of the following words from Abdullah b. 'Umar:" I came first in the race and my horse jumped into the mosque with me."

Chapter 26: GREAT BENEFIT IN THE FORELOCKS OF THE HORSES

It has been narrated on the authority of Ibn Umar that the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) said: There will be great benefit in the forelock of the horses until the Day of judgment.

Whenever Dharma, or the situation of law and order, is endangered on this world, I incarnate onto this world to re establish Dharma, law and order, and to protect the Sadhus or saints and to detroy the evil elements of the society.Bhagavad Gita

Throughout ages, Lord Vishnu, has incarnated in various life forms through different yugas (ages or eons) in situations where Dharma was in danger, because of certain dushta (evil) elements in the world. In mythology, there ten documented instances of incarnation of Lord Vishnu. These incarnations are termed as the avatars of Lord Vishnu. Each avatar of Lord Vishnu shall be presented below with apporpriate deatils of the situation under which the lord was compelled to land on the earth.

WAHJULLAH -- THE FACE OF GOD

Narrated by: Abu Huraira
The Prophet said, "Allah created Adam in His picture .... When He created him, He said (to him), 'Go and greet that group of angels sitting there, and listen what they will say in reply to you, for that will be your greeting and the greeting of your offspring.' Adam (went and) said, 'As-Salamu alaikum (Peace be upon you).' They replied, 'As-Salamu-'Alaika wa Rahmatullah (Peace and Allah's Mercy be on you).' So they increased 'Wa Rahmatullah.' " The Prophet added, "So whoever will enter Paradise, will be of the shape and picture of Adam. Since then the creation of Adam's (offspring) (i.e. stature of human beings is being diminished continuously) to the present time."

In this context, would it not also be relevant to consider how, above all, it has been the Qur’anic notion of the universe as an expression of Allah’s will and creation that has inspired, in diverse Muslim communities, generations of artists, scientists and philosophers? Scientific pursuits, philosophic inquiry and artistic endeavour are all seen as the response of the faithful to the recurring call of the Qur’an to ponder the creation as a way to understand Allah's benevolent majesty. As Sura al-Baqara proclaims: ‘Wherever you turn, there is the face of Allah’.

Genesis 23:2 (KJV) And Sarah died in Kirjatharba; the same [is] Hebron in the land of Canaan: and Abraham came to mourn for Sarah, and to weep for her.

frankly, nothing more was heard from isaac, the promised son for the next 3 decades or so. the father and the promised son met only after sarah's death. isaac, it seems, missed her funeral as well.

Genesis 24:1 (KJV) And Abraham was old, [and] well stricken in age: and the LORD had blessed Abraham in all things. Genesis 24:2 (KJV) And Abraham said unto his eldest servant of his house, that ruled over all that he had, Put, I pray thee, thy hand under my thigh:

Baca, Valley of
(Psalms 84:6; RSV, "valley of weeping," marg., "or balsam trees"), probably a valley in some part of Palestine, or generally some one of the valleys through which pilgrims had to pass on their way to the sanctuary of Jehovah on Zion; or it may be figuratively "a valley of weeping."

He is a mysterious being, who has to be sought out.

He has the secrets of some of the paradoxes of Life, which ordinary people do not understand, or understand in a wrong sense, as we shall see further on. the nearest equivalent figure in the literature of the People of the Book is Melchizedek or Melchisedek (the Greek form in the New Testament). In Gen. xiv. 18-20, he appears as king of Salem, priest [imam] of the Most High God [el-elyon--al--aliyyun]: he blesses Abraham, and Abraham gives him tithes.
