10-29-02 Last night I wrote a lot of e-mails one of them being to the people in charge of the Sophia program where foreigner's go to Bancho, a Japanese elementary school, and teach them english. Since it was starting around 10:00am I had to leave from the dorm earlier than usual. I wrote a bunch of e-mails and i was hoping to have received on from my boyfriend, nothing.... Oh well I figured that he is probably not finished from work yet. I talked with my brother a bit as well as Dan, and then I had to get going. Once I got to the school I saw Cecilia, Marade, and then Elizabeth, who is also in my Japanese class came. We were not exactly sure which entrance they were talking about to meet but we eventually found it. I saw one of the Japanese girls from my dorm and it turned out that she was in my group. As soon as we entered the school we placed on our button that designated, visitor, and then put our shoes in the cubby and replaced them with slippers that kept falling off my feet. Marade kept making fun of me saying that I was the loudest person there and that I was going to scare away the kids. She also commented on how American are more violent, but I could not help but think that the Irish were more violent, kinda funny. i meet a girl from Germany who was really nice. The kids finally came down the stairs each with a clipboard and pencil case in hand, which was adorable. All of the kids kept staring at us. i waved and smiled at one of the Japanese kids and they looked shy and they bowed their head, it was cute. They lined up into 4 groups. So the Japanese girl and I got about 6 or 7 Japanese kids, and then we kinda had no clue what to do. So the easiest thing, introductions. One of the first questions out of the Japanese kids mouth was, "why are you soo tall?" I kinda thought this was a really funny question since in America I am considered short. The kids said, "My name is....." and then I would say it and then would repeat after what I said. We did not know what to do... so I thought of easy things like age, hobby, favorite food, favorite animal, etc... Then I realized when they asked me what my favorite food was, being unagi, they probably did not want that response but rather something American. Then while the girl and were teaching one of the Japanese kids was being a brat and kicking a kid who was a little on the chubby side who was obviously getting pissed. Then he started running to the other group and smacking the boy on the head.... I was shocked and appalled. What the hell do I do?!?! do I have the right to discpline them? I did not know so the only thing that I could do was ignore it. Then this one Japanese girl kept asking me questions that I could understand, stress..... After the class was over I went to Japanese and Leah was in our class to today since she was headed to Hiroshima to see her boyfriend. So class was interesting then we went to the computer room to print our environmental issues stuff. Anyway that was fairly easy and then I printed out other things that I need, i.e. stuff for environmental issues. After a while I finally figured out how to log on to AIM express, and i was really disappointed when I saw that my boyfriend was not online. :( So next class, Environmental Issues, we got into groups arranged by similar topics. I met a girl that was doing her report on Air Pollution in Beijing, since she lived there for 4 years, and then this guy who was doing his report on Air Pollution in Hong Kong since he lived there. They both said that my outline was too long, so I dunno i figured that I am going to change it. Then Cecilia and i got to talking and I told her to skip her next class as well as gave her excuse and she said I was evil, but she ended up going to only half of it anyway, heheheheeh We also discussed the possibility of going to Thailand... hmmm Thailand, really wanna go. Class ajourned and then Leah and I headed to the restaurant. We found it right away and they had all different types of curry. We both ended up getting the lunch special which was 2,000 yen and you received: naan, two curry dishes of your choice *mine being seafood as well as vegetable* a plate of rice, soup, and chai. The chai was brought at very end of the meal and they had two cups and they poured to and from one another until it was foamy. I was surprised that he did not spill any of it. Cecilia had arrived at that point and she got rice. We actually never received ours but there was no complainants since we were soooo full. The food was sooooo delicious!!! I paid with my Visa, and then we were off. Since Leah still had some time I suggested that we go to Kagurazaka dori, so we all went and walked around and we went to the 100 yen store and I purchased a few things that I needed, and then she had to get going and Cecilia followed. Once I got back to the dorm I brought down my laptop in hopes that my boyfriend e-mail since I wrote him a pretty long e-mail. He e-mailed me back a few sentences.... I was rather disappointed.... I was still full when dinner rolled around so I got my dessert which was really good, it was an apple which had cinnamon and was dipped or cooked in cider, sooo good. Ann and I were joking about waiting until the last of the girls came home to see if they wanted theirs. Well back to the laptop. I have a bunch of e-mails to write.
