Today I woke up, and i attempted to use my calling card. This took me about an hour to figure out that I can not use it. In Japan their are two types of calling cards NTT and IC. In the dining room their is a vending machine for both. For a 1000 yen one gets about 109 minutes. So i looked into my wallet since it is still taking me a while to figure out the different coins, hoping that i would have something that would add up to 1000 yen. Nothing. I only had a 50000 yen note, which is about 50 bucks. So one of the girls at the dorm was kind enough to give me some change. I purchased two of the different kinds, and went back to the booth where the phone was. The phone does not accept coins, only phone cards. The way the phone works is you first, if you wish, hit the english display button, then pick up the phone, place in the card, and dial your number, Before you dial your number one can choice to conceal the numbers or do a slow. I dialed the number, first using my country code 001 and then the toll free ATT number. "The number you have dialed is not a toll free number where you are dialing from, you will be charged direct calling rates if you proceed with this call." Okay.... so naturally i proceeded. Twice I called and I got my boyfriend's cell phone message, and Suncoast's number was busy. When I left the booth it was almost 10am and time for dorm orientation. I knew that would not be able to call later because of the time difference. At 10 we proceeded with dorm orientation, it was rather boring, and living in the dorm places a lot of restrictions. First one has to wake up at about 8 and begin cleaning their assigned area which changes every week. Then you have to take a shower and eat. Both of which have assigned time. One is responsible for cleaning their own dishes, and putting them away, as well as setting up for dinner. Curfew is 10pm, except on Fridays where it is extended until 11pm. If you miss the times for meal, one is kinda screwed, but their is a convient store around the corner. All of the girls after orientation went around the town a bit, and it was sooo cool. I saw four arcades one of which had DDR. MacDonald had Hello Kitty as the toy in the kid's meal. I saw a lot of Miffy around the place, which I have never seen. And everyone has J-phones!!! I want to get a j-phone, maybe tomorrow I will go to Akihabara, which is known for having the latest gadgets for free. We all went to eat at a Japanese restuarant, and for some reason whatever I ordered was something special, i dunno. The waitress came back with a box filled with paper, and I picked out one that had the number 4 on it. So Midorui told me that I had won a free beer. If i ever remember how to get their then i will redeem my coupon. I forget what it was that they served with the meal, but it was not water. It had a sour kick to it. We all went to a cafe then proceeded back to the dorm. On the way walking back to the dorm, I saw it, Toei Animation is right around the corner from my dorm!!! Back at the dorm, Midori helped bring up my luggage, I unpacked and feel asleep. 9-15-02
So it is about 1:22 am in the morning and I am suffering from sever jet lag. I went to sleep yesterday around 4:00pm and woke up not to long ago, I think that I have a little bit of a cold starting. My nose is completely congested, and I still feel like sleeping 7 more hours.
