Why Japan | Sophia University | Fiance Your Trip to Japan | Culture Shock! | Learn Japanese |

Why not Europe?

Funny every time I tell someone that I barely know that I am studying abroad they always assume that I am studying somewhere in Europe. No, why not? Well, I guess it all began at the age of 13. I was introduced to Japanese culture like so many other people are today, anime. Akira was the popular anime of the time, and anime was beginning to filter its way more distinguishly on American TV. I became completely consumed by anime. I liked anime at first because it was so different than anything else I had ever seen. The more I learned about anime the more I learned about the culture. In high school I took a japanese class as well as my freshman year of college. If it wasn't for sushi I would not have discovered eel!! So, if you are still questioning why I would choose Japan, my boyfriend put it best when he said, "it is like you making a pilgramage."

But I think that my biggest reason for going to Japan, despite all of the intrakit toys, the new age gadgets, the myraid of anime, hoards of manga, the latest video games, etc... I want to speak the language fleuntly. Japanese was my most intense and favorite class my freshman year of college. It is a fascinating language that seems more logical in a lot of senses than english. Pronounication is easier in japanese than english. By the end of five months of living in Japan I am to learn as much Japanese as humanly possible, so I can have full conversations. How intellectual they are is another story ^_^
