The Philippine local  movie industry is a haven for beautiful, stunning women who some say are gorgeous enough to be beauty queens. We agree . . .

YES, SHE'S GOT THE LOOK !

But are looks enough? In this day and age of emphasis on good reputation, why
do most actresses fall short of
qualifying as beauty queens?

In this special section of
MISS PHILIPPINES BEYOND 2000
let us examine and see the women who

COULD BE, BUT CAN NEVER BE !

Beauty in such good taste
we regret to see go to waste !

* * *
Manila Actress SUNSHINE CRUZ
MISS PHILIPPINES BEYOND 2000 ranks these women as some of the most beautiful in local cinema. These ladies are definitely beauty queen material . Although extremely gifted in both face & figure, their current reputation in Philippine movies and compromising roles disqualify them from the possibility of ever wearing the Miss Philippines crown. "Beauty queens," as this website defines them, "Are not only icons of beauty, but moreso, are role models for young women. True living examples they can use as patterns for good and respectable behavior. "

Sunshine  was one of Stella Araneta's personal choices last year to represent the Philippines  in the Miss World Pa- geant in London. The Miss Philippines World title was vacant for a while after Miriam  gave it up to take the place of dethroned  Miss Philippines Universe Janelle Bautista. Though Lalaine Edson or any of the  runners-up could have assumed  the title immediately, Stella procrastinated  in favor of  Sunshine. Unfortunately, the sexy actress politely declined the offer in favor of her acting career. Sources say that the real reason why she declined was because she did not  want to live behind the shadow of Miriam's outstanding performance in Miss Universe 1999 and fall short of expectations;  which  some say might hurt her career in the long run. Never the less, it is a compliment on her part to  be handpicked  as a  potential Miss Philippines  without the  hassle of an actual competition!
SUNSHINE
"Sunshine could have been a fine Miss Philippines. Too bad, the lure of superstardom with its promise of fame and fortune got to her first! What a waste to see such a gorgeous gal disrobing on the big screen wherein she could have brought fame and fortune not only to herself but also to her country as well. Money changes everything."

Giselle Toengi is voted by many as one of the loveliest faces ever to graze the history of local cinema. Giselle was born in France and is more widely known for her 'I don't-care-what-people-say-about-me' attitude. She has starred in a number of films some of which have cast her in compromising positions. And...yeah, our gal doesn't mind at all posing semi-naked!

GISELLE
"Such a lovely face reminiscent of Vogue covergirls. The long, thin nose; full lips, good bone structure and
big, expressive eyes make this gal a natural. Even the beauty of delegates from Venezuela pale in compari-
son to her assets. Definitely, a gift from Mother Na-
ture herself, untouched by Science."

Giselle in evening gown. Just think for a moment and imagine if she were to appear like this on the
stage of the  Miss Universe  Pageant. The crowd will definitely go nuts! Move over girls, Miss Philippines is on stage, this is her night.
Giselle's only setback, sad to say, is her height. At a mere 5 feet and 3 inches, she will disappear behind the amazon giants of the Latin American countries. Add to that, is the possibility of de-
thronement, as it is very much public that she does approve to 'sexy' roles.

What
a waste
to see
such a

girl with

Giselle,
you are
too good to be true!
WHAT A LOSS !
Too bad, they've already earned a repu-tation neither Donald Trump nor Eric Morley would be happy with !
Why do all the beautiful girls seem not destined for the title of Miss Philippines?

Patricia  Javier  is no stranger to beauty pa-
geants. She has com- peted in a number of
local  home  town pa-
geants  and not surpri-sing, also  tried out for the Binibining Pilipinas in 1998. Unfortunate-
ly, she  was ignored!
Stardom beckoned as she was  discovered backstage and the rest is  history. Today, the dusky beauty is enjoy-
ing success  making movies with offers lining at her doorstep!

SHE'S GOT THE LOOK !!!
PATRICIA JAVIER
THE BINIBINING PILIPINAS
WANNA-BE IS NOW A STAR THAT SHE WAS
ALWAYS MEANT TO BE!
The doll that nobody wanted has risen to stardom!
The organizers of the Miss Philippines Pageant just never learn their lesson! Another potential beauty
queen  simply  ignored in  favor of  foreign bred beauties who brought neither fame nor glory to the name of  Miss Philippines. Talk  about  throwing pearls to the swine! Beauty wasted!
IN CONCLUSION:  Waste, waste, waste !!! The best way to summarize the disappointing loss of classic beauties  featured on this page. The lack of prestige and opportunities in the Miss Philippines Pageant fail to attract the best, the most and the qualified. The lure of  easy money in local Philippine cinema is unde-
niable. How many actresses have disrobed just for the sake of 'art' per se? It's the same story over and over again, an  ignored 'girl-next-door' gets  discovered by  a trained eye and  ends up  richer and more famous than the  actual winners of the pageant where she was just another 'thank you' girl. Organizers of the Miss Philippines Pageant, when will you learn your lesson? Your methodologies and strategies are still trapped in the old  school of the past! A vicious  time warp, a colossal black hole! Your competitors have moved on to graduate courses while you are still learning the basics of the beauty alphabet! Wake up!!!
