Beauty with an attitude! Out with
the old and in with  the new. Time
to  update   the  classic  'Filipina' idioms: shy, softspoken, reserved.
These gals are the new ladies of the millenium: confident, well versed, articulate, upfront and very honest with what they have to say. When these  women talk, people listen!

L-R: Nicole Hofer, 2nd Runner-up; Joanna Maria Penalosa,
Miss Philippines International; Nina Ricci Alagao, Miss Philippines
Universe; Katherine Annwen De Guzman, Miss Philippines World,
and Maria Cristina Tan, 1st Runner-up.
How will you pursue your dreams and ambitions and become successful within the fast changing world of the new millenium?
Nina is perhaps one
of the finest Miss
Philippines ever.
Blessed with a
unique combination
of  Asian/Polynesian
looks and a figure to
die for, it is difficult
not to give her a
second look. Witty
and articulate as well by nature, our queen is surprisingly, also a gifted artist. Gosh,
Nina! you have
everything!
What a
babe!

"Well that shouldn't be difficult for someone who is receptive to new ideas. I guess you have to be on guard all the time and can't be caught unaware of things to come. You always have to be on the lookout for what is new because just when you thought technology is at it's peak, there's more to come!"

Nina  has the  look that simply  grows better
the  longer you  look at her.  She symbolizes everything  the Filipina is all about. Beautiful and yet  down to  earth,  talented,  intelligent, articulate, and above all, a good sport. Win or lose, come what may, NINA IS A 'WINNA.'
What impresses me with Kathy
is the way she carries herself in public. Her trademark smile and confident gait are enough to win any judge's vote. A smile so natural you would think that the girl never goes through stress.

Now here's a gal
who can talk! Kathy
is pretty in her own special way. So
natural and unassu-
ming, this towering
Atenean showed
them all that beauty
queens ain't no way
dumb! Very articu-
late and refined,
Kathy reminds us all
that education should always be a priority to attain
S U C C E S S .
"Since we all know that this is the new
millenium, the best way to cope up with
things is to always remember the basics,
to love one another, to be true to one's self. Because amidst all these technologies,
amidst all these globalization, we always tend to forget who we really are and what our purpose is."

"Getting and gaining
success comes from hard work and diligence. Training myself to be disciplined and to work hard in my education
will help me to get to the success that I want to be."

Joanna Maria Penalosa
Miss Philippines
International 2000
Joanna was a winner from the very start.  Long, silky, jet black hair
paired with her porcelain like  features made her stood out from the rest of the aspirants. Here's a girl who can easily audition for Sports Illustrated! Always glowing and ready to strike a pose, who wouldn't be captivated  by such  a lass?  The Filipina  mestiza  epitomizes the great tradition for which beauty queens are famous for.

Mutya of the Philippines winners Josephine Canonizado (left), a 22 year old mestiza  and commercial model, will represent the country in the Miss Asia Pacific Pageant. Christie Ann De Jesus (right) has already emerged a winner as first runner up in the recently concluded Queen of the Year 2000 Pageant! Proof  enough that the Filipina of the new millenium is indeed going places! Good job!
The recent winners of the Mutya of the Philippines winners may not be as famous as their Binibini counterparts, but boy, have they had a series of winnings over the past few years! Only goes to show that a beauty pageant, no matter how small or how big in the Philippines, will  always be an avenue for the discovery of more 'dia-
monds in the rough.' These batch of ladies all look so fresh and upbeat! Go girls!
