| ARTICLE 12: ELECTIONS
CANDIDATURE SECTION 12.10 A. Any member who is of a sound mind shall be eligible to contest for any election. B. No candidate shall be discriminated against on the grounds of sex, race, colour, creed and religion in any election. C. Election of officers shall be based solely on personal merits and attributes. D. No member whose monthly dues are in arrears shall be eligible to contest for any election or be eligible to nominate a member to contest for any election. E. Any member convicted for a crime shall neither be eligible to contest for any election or be eligible to nominate a member to contest for any election. SECTION 12.11 A. Election of officers shall be at the Three-Day Annual Congress. B. Election of an officer shall be after certification of his candidature by the Electoral College through a public vetting. ELECTORAL COLLEGE SECTION 12.12 A. The Chairman of the Electoral Commission shall by this clause have the authority to form a seven (7)-man Electoral College hereinafter referred to as the College. B. The College shall supervise the entire electioneering process i.e. vetting and voting. C. The College shall be obliged to report back to the Electoral Commission. D. Members of the College shall not be allowed to contest or nominate in the particular elections. E. The College shall comprise of one representative of the standing committees and commission. SECTION 12.13 A. Any candidate approved of by the Electoral College after vetting shall be introduced to the General assembly. B. Such a member shall be allowed to read out his manifesto to the General Assembly. VOTING SECTION 12.14 A. Voting at all elections shall be by secret ballot. B. A simple majority is required to win any election thereof. C. New elections shall be conducted in the case of a tie. D. A candidate who stands unopposed shall be declared winner immediately after passing the vetting session. |
