Sonic Mega Collection Plus

SMC Plus' title screen.

Intro:
Sega announced Sonic Mega Collection Plus for E3 2004, an enhanced port of Sonic Mega Collection, featuring Sonic the Hedgehog and other games that appeared on the Mega Drive (Genesis). The game also features Comix Zone and The Ooze in all versions, wheras the original Mega Collection only had them in the Japanese version.

Another adddition is six Game Gear games and some new videos and sketches that weren't in the GameCube version, as well as the ability to save at any point in the games.

The Game:
Sonic Mega Collection Plus is a compilation of the following games:

  • Sonic the Hedgehog
  • Sonic the Hedgehog 2
  • Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine
  • Sonic the Hedgehog Spinball
  • Sonic the Hedgehog 3
  • Sonic & Knuckles
  • Blue Sphere
  • Knuckles the Echidna in Sonic the Hedgehog 2
  • Sonic the Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles
  • Sonic 3D Flickies' Island
  • Comix Zone
  • The Ooze
  • Flicky
  • Ristar the Shooting Star
  • Sonic the Hedgehog (Game Gear)
  • Sonic Drift
  • Sonic Labyrinth
  • Sonic & Tails
  • G Sonic
  • Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine (Game Gear)
  • Flicky pre-dates Sonic the Hedgehog by a few years, but was included due to Flickies being one of the hapless animals trapped in Eggman's badniks. Sonic 3D Flickies' Island is a remake of sorts, using the same bird saving game design.

Ristar the Shooting Star, or Ristar as it was known in the West, was probably included due to the game coming from an old prototype game idea for Sonic involving a rabbit. Early screens of Ristar showed the character looking more like a rabbit than a star, going under the slightly more disturbing name of Feel. Character designer Yuji Uekawa also works on many Sonic designs.
