Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine

A firm competitor for The Longest Sonic Game Title Ever award...

Intro:
Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine is a remake of the popular Puyo Puyo puzzle series made by Compile. The game itself uses character designs from the Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog cartoon, and was supervised by Sega of America as opposed to Sega of Japan or Sonic Team.

Story:
Dr. Robotnik plans on capturing all the jolly bean people from Beanville, and turing them into malicious robots with his new Mean Bean Machine! You must help the beans escape from the prison before they all get turned into Robo-beans!

The Game:
The basic premise of the game is to make sure that your beans do not reach the top of your screen before your opponent (who is on the other side of the screen) does. The beans fall in groups of two, and keep on coming downwards. There are five bean colours; green, purple, red, yellow and blue. You have to connect the beans by colour in groups of four or more, which makes them disappear. The more beans you connect at once, the more points you get. When you get large bean 'combos', some clear beans fall onto your opponent's screen. These beans cannot be got rid of in the normal way - you need to have them touching a group that's going to disappear, and they go along with them. The best tactic is to dump as many as possible on your opponent's screen, forcing them upwards and preventing them making combos. Watch out though - They can do the same thing to you!
